It’s not just a matter of getting your hair up there (or down there), it’s also about the hold. Hey, heavy hair can be persistent, and loves to head down south rather than hold its ideal shape. Basically, a low bun is a scary feat the long-locked.

Here, Australia’s master of the mane, Renya Xydis shows us her buns of steel, and gives us a step-by-step guide for the long haired ladies who want to sport a stylish low bun.

“Long hair can often be difficult to secure into a neat low bun that holds that ideal ‘bun shape’.” says Renya. “My biggest tip for long hair is to start off by creating a low pony tail and for a bun with slightly more texture, start off with a loose plait. This will help you add texture for a more relaxed, everyday look.”

Top Low Bun Tips

  1. Apply small amount of Wella Eimi Pearl Styler and brush through the hair
  2. For a smooth finish on top, prep the hair by straightening in sections with Cloud Nine Original Iron, starting at the root until the hair is straight.
  3. Brushing the hair back, tie your hair in a low pony at the nape of the neck. For a more textured bun, plait you hair in a loos plait and secure with a hair tie.
  4. Wrap the hair (or plait) around base of the pony to create your ideal bun shape and secure with pins around the outside out the bun. For a more relaxed look, play with the plaited section, loosening and lifting them slightly with a tail comb. This will also help create volume.
  5. Finish with Wella Eimi Flexible Finish.
