Tons of products come through Carousel HQ on a daily basis. Most are stock-standard ones that boast to improve skin texture, perfect messy hair, second as a babysitter (just kidding) but then there are some that are just too wacky not to try. Read on for the craziest products we’ve spotted, that actually work wonders.
For Face
I’m not going to lie, this product really shocked me. Napoleon Perdis’ cleanser from the famed Auto Pilot range is lightly creamy, gentle… and contains organic donkey’s milk. I had to psyche myself up for a solid two minutes in the shower before I dared to rub it all over my face, but I haven’t looked back since. Now before you say what-the, this strange ingredient is actually loaded with vitamins and essential fatty acids such as omega 3 and 6, making it a great winter pick for those with dry or sensitised skin types. Highly recommended. Try Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Hydrating Milk Cleanser, $69
Sure, we all love a glass of vino, but did you know that it’s really good for your skin too? This primer from 100% Pure contains red wine resveratrol, which is rich in antioxidants to prevent and repair signs of ageing. Plus, it contains teensy light-reflective pigments that make your face look instantly more luminous, especially under foundation. Try 100% Pure Luminous Facial Primer, $44.95
For Body
Nobody does a coffee scrub as well as dear old Frank. They’ve now got one that smells just like a freshly-baked brownie, with the added benefits of cold press almond and macadamia oil. The star ingredient of this scrub is of course the organic cacao extract, which makes it smelly chocolatey and also helps to fight free radicals and combat the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation and dark spots. It’s almost good enough to eat. Try Frank Cacao Coffee Scrub, $16.95
It doesn’t even surprise me that Demeter has a pizza fragrance. I mean afterall, it’s just a hop and a skip away from their other scents like log cabin, sawdust and paperback. Unsurprisingly, this one is a muddle of tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of oregano, and is strangely wearable (if you want to smell like pizza-flavoured Shapes) without garnering too much unwanted attention. Not only is it something interesting to try, it’ll only set you back the same price as a family meal deal. Try Demeter Cologne in Pizza, $29.50
For Hair
Apply this clear hair primer to towel-dried hair before applying other styling products or using a heat-styler, and you’ll have a ‘do that’ll truly last the distance. The weird thing about this product? Once you pop it in your hands, you can literally watch and hear it go snap, crackle, pop before your very eyes. Try KMS Hairstay Style Boost, $31.95
Made with lava rock, this matte hair dust helps to give oompf to flat hair, and is a cinch to use. Sprinkle the shaker straight into your hair and use your finger tips to ruffle the roots to pump up the volume. Try Schwarzkopf OSIS Dust It Flex, $28.95
