Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia left us in absolute awe as model after model strutted down with impeccable hair. Read on for our round-up of the best hairstyles to copy at home. We promise they’re not too hard to follow!

Super Slick

This cool hairstyle from the Serpent & Swan show isn’t meant to look crunchy or overdone; there’s still an element of softness and movement to it and is easy to achieve using just a few products.

  1. Prep the hair by spraying a generous amount of O&M Rootalicious all throughout the roots using a round brush to blow dry hair back away from the face.
  2. Layer a generous amount of O&M Atonic around the hairline through to the mid-lengths of the hair and blow back away from the face.
  3. Apply a fingertip scoop of O&M Project Sukuroi through the mid-lengths to ends of the hair and blow dry using a round brush to achieve a soft, straight, smooth look.
  4. Complete the look by applying O&M Style Guru from the hairline to the mid-lengths of the hair and roughly brush back to create a fresh and imperfectly polished look.

Braidy Bunch

“The look is relaxed and cool, a very boyish feel in the way they very effortlessly tie their hair back, with a good amount of texture and flyways that will have a really nice movement as the girls walk,” says Hair Director Marie Cain. “It has shape and a structure that’s very undone in its feel but strong in technique. The detail in the back creates a really nice line and a fun point of difference.”

  1. On thick hair apply a generous amount of Goldwell StyleSign Hot Form styling lotion, to dry hair from roots to ends. On fine hair apply a generous amount of Goldwell StyleSign Double Boost root lift spray from roots to ends
  2. Directionally blow-dry the hair into either a side or middle part (depending on which finish you prefer) and blast dry hair, then mist the same product lightly back through and texture blowdry with a small round brush or very lightly tong with a medium wand, this is to create the right amount of texture to do the remainder steps.
  3. Generously spray hair throughout with Goldwell Dualsenses Ultra Volume Dry Shampoo, this will help to catch the flyways and build a chalky texture
  4. Take a section of hair, approximately 4cm wide, that starts in at the top of the crown, and section straight down to the nape. Keep the section very clean and tightly braid down and tie off tightly and neatly at the bottom of the nape.
  5. Take one hand in ponytail position at the bottom of the neck, with your free hand feed the hair into the stationary hand, the detailing of this part is very important as this will allow for hair to be fly-away and soft. Tie hair into ponytail with clear hair tie, secure it a little closer to the nape and then drag down once fastened.
  6. Take another tie, place around the first tie once, then half loop through, allow for flyaway and long pieces to fall out, take a very thin piece of hair to wrap around and cover the hair tie, fasten only with a spritz of Goldwell StyleSign Sprayer to hold.
  7. Finish the look by tucking hair behind the ear, pulling pieces of hair out and exaggerating the softness of the look. Spray with Goldwell StyleSign Big Finish to secure the look, but keeping the soft finish.

Loose And Casual

If you’re looking for something more laid back, then this hairstyle from the Watson x Watson show will do the trick. It works well for day and night – pair with ripped jeans and kicks during the day, and swap with leather pants and bright heels for a glam evening look.

  1. On dry hair, spray Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer.
  2. Apply Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray liberally, before layering with Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam for an added boost of volume directly to the roots.
  3. Use your fingers to lightly blow dry and toss the hair, enabling it to maintain its natural movement.
  4. Starting at the ends and working up, brush the hair with a padded styling brush.
  5. Divide hair into three sections and curl the mid-lengths around the barrel keeping the last two inches straight. Curl the front side sections away from the face and alternate the direction of the curls on the back section.
  6. Run your fingers through to separate and create loose, natural-looking waves.
  7. Finish with Redken Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray to create weightless volume and an airy textured, windswept effect.

Pulled Back

“This year, the hair for We Are Handsome is very relaxed – it’s a real ‘lived in’ style. There is a sense of tailored polish or a more raw beauty which applies”, says Garreth Lenagh, KMS California’s Hair Director.

  1. Start by prepping the hair with KMS Addvolume body build detangler, smoothing from roots to end.
  2. Create a side part starting on the left parietal ridge (recession) and continuing along the diagonal, to the right hand side nape of the neck.
  3. Taking the hair on the right, create a ponytail to sit level with the top of the ear and approximately 2cm behind the ear. Apply KMS Tamefrizz smoothing lotion and KMS Tamfrizz de-frizz oil to control flyaways.
  4. Divide the remaining hair on the left hand side by creating a horizontal section from the middle of the left ear, through the occipital bone, reaching the diagonal part.
  5. Take the top section and brushing horizontally, secure to the base of the existing ponytail.
  6. Take the bottom section and brushing diagonally, secure to the base of the ponytail.
  7. Create a knot using the remaining ponytail, securing with pins.
  8. Ensure hair from the end of the knot is left out and fanned.
  9. Finish with KMS Hairstay medium hold spray and KMS Hairstay anti humidity seal.

Slung Low

It’s so easy to modernise the good ol’ ponytail, as seen from the New Generation show. Small tweaks such as parting your hair down the middle and wrapping a small section around the elastic band will elevate your look from shabby to chic in an instant.

  1. On dry hair, spray Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer.
  2. Create a clean, sharp centre-part.
  3. Directionally blow-dry hair toward the nape.
  4. Apply Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray and use a brush to coax hair toward the nape of the neck.
  5. Tie ponytail at the nape and flat-iron the tail section to create smoothness.
  6. Take a small section from the ponytail and use to conceal the elastic. Apply Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray and fix into place with blow-dry heat.
  7. Finish the look with a spray of Redken Diamond Oil High-Shine Airy Mist to create a delicate, multi-faceted shine.
