The IT Hair Style For Men This Season

Close your eyes for a sec and imagine the man of your dreams. What does he look like to you?

Call me biased but a well-groomed bloke steals my heart every single time. Whether they’ve got a tidy beard, impeccable skin or sort-of manicured hands (I call bullshit if you’ve never looked a man’s hands), a guy that knows how to look after himself makes me believe that they’d be good at looking after their other half as well. And can I see a show of hands if you love guys with longer hair styles? Mmmm, I thought so. Lucky you, because you’re about to be hit with some serious eye candy.

“The biggest hair trend for guys right now is a throwback to barber shop styles,” says hairstylist Elyston Hayden. “Hair should look retro, groomed, but not too dramatic.” And I don’t doubt that for a second; shows like Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men proved extremely popular last year, and it’s no surprise that super slick characters like Don Draper and Al Capone have influenced guys to go for this top hairstyle.

‘Bold lines, undercuts, fades and man-buns were huge in 2014, but guys are going for something much more effortless, yet still polished and sophisticated,” continues Hayden. Celebs such as Justin Timberlake, Michiel Huisman, Jai Courtney and Chris Hemsworth absolutely nail the look every time they’re on the red carpet, but sadly, this hairstyle’s not for everyone.

“You can get away with this style if you’ve got medium to thick hair, and if it’s straight or slightly wavy,” says Hayden. “But this look isn’t for guys with curly hair – any sort of humidity or weather change will ruin this style in an instant.” Here’s how to get the look:

Step 1 – Start with damp hair, and spritz all over with a thickening spritz. Try Original Mineral Atonic Thickening Spritz, $28.95

Step 2 – Blow dry the hair back with a round brush to boost volume. Try Brushworx Be Natural Hot Tube Brush, $18.65

Step 3 – Finish the look with a spritz of sea salt spray. Try Toni & Guy Men Messy Salt Spray, $15.99

Step 4 – For something with more hold, try a smudge of hair clay. Pop a dollop into your palms, rub together, and run your fingers through the front to the back. Try R + Co Conformist Hair Paste, $27
