Emily in Paris is one of my guilty-watching pleasures on Netflix. We’d all love to join Emily on a working holiday in Europe. Alas, it’s a dream of the young and rich, as most of us are stuck at home with overpriced groceries, caring duties or paying off mortgages that won’t end! But back to the Netflix television series and the Emily in Paris fashion looks. The costume design is by Marylin Fitoussi.
Classic Prints
This season we see the crew dressed in modern interpretations of classic prints. Think of a check pattern in a brown and pale pink trench coat worn by Emily or the red and pink plaid shift minidress worn by Camille.
Gingham is having a moment. Smaller squares may look better than larger ones. Look out for the black and white gingham jacket that Emily wears.
There’s a matching red and white striped suit jacket and pants paired with a long-sleeved red shirt and classic hat. The green and white gingham Manhattan bag by Kate Spade is perfect for a picnic.
There is a white long-sleeve top with small black polka dots and more dots. Who could forget the black and white jumpsuit with Beetlejuice vibes?
Emily’s Fashion
We can all wear a cobalt blue or similar colour block power suit to work. But yellow isn’t a colour that suits most skin tones.
Waxy clothes are in fashion – but you’ll spot more of this look in Selling Sunset.
I don’t love the tiny cropped pink ribbed shrug cardigan by Jacquemus La Maille. It’s not something that everyone could pull off.
There’s no need for a Missoni multi-coloured faux-fur coat in my country unless I’m booking a skiing holiday to the beautiful Alps in Switzerland. But I hope teddy bear jackets with toggles are still in fashion (Marant Étoile) by next winter.
Emily’s Accessories
Emily adds a pop of personality and youthful fun with her small bags and accessories. The retro styling with modern colours in Emily’s Pierre Hardy Alpha leather crossbody bag is to die for!
Will you add a classic black Maison Michel wool Abby sailor cap to your summer wardrobe?
Emily’s mobile phone case which looks like a classic camera can be found on Amazon. (My husband commented that it’s the only thing she has worn consistently over 5 seasons! And I didn’t think he was paying attention.) You can find some cat eye polarized sunglasses by Lee Cooper in pink and black.
Mindy’s Fashion
Mindy is a performer, so her clothes tend to be bold and flamboyant, and occasionally risqué. I love her blue belt embellished with crystals by Andrew Gn.
Sylvie Fashion
I do enjoy Sylvie fashion style better than the two younger main characters. She tends to wear more classic corporate wear with a twist. The black Christopher Esber Salacia Wire column dress was a showstopper.
Jewellery
Camile and Emily wear many modern silver and gold jewellery. I’m lusting after Emily’s gold ring with a lapis lazuli round disc held in a modern setting by Boneur Paris.
Sylvie often wears large cuffs or a modern gold Charlotte Chesnais bracelet. For similar styles think Tiffany and Co, and Mara Paris.
Conclusion
If you’d like a cheat sheet for all of the costumes, follow the Emily in Paris Outfits Instagram account or search on Pinterest.
You will need to be confident and fashion-forward to pull off what Emily and Mindy wear! Fingers crossed ‘Emily in Paris’ might spin-off to ‘Emily in Rome!’
P.S. Good news – drinking Aperol is still cool!
