If there is one item that defines winter, it’s boots. Le boot is winter shoe-ified, but can also be worn throughout the seasons, proving to be one of the most important trans-seasonal pieces in your wardrobe.

We get the low – and high – down of the best boots this winter. ‘Tis the season to house your hooves in booties.

The Over The Knee Boot

We’re calling it, this could be the boot of the season. Loose the Pretty Woman vibes however, and opt for a more luxurious take on the thigh-high memo. Choose soft suedes and buttery leathers in a muted palette of greys, camels and taupe.

The Patent Boot

Hello 60s; a surprising sartorial resurgence is the patent boot. A nod to mod, Dior’s cult vinyl boot first clad the feet of fashionistas everywhere, and the latex boot trend was here to stay. High street fashion promptly followed, with Zara, Asos and Witchery offering near-identical variations. Cool boot behaviour 101.

The Lace-Up Boot

The laced-up trend has moved from our décolletage down to our toes, with lace-up boots taking a big step forward fashion wise. Dior kicked things off (literally), then there was Chloe, and the others naturally followed. So lace up those feet and take a stride in the fashionable direction.

The Classic Riding Boot

Like to put a classic step forward? Then the good ol’ ankle-skimming riding boot is always in vogue. A winner in black, the classic ankle boot adds a stamp of chicness and ooh la la to any outfit. Best to invest in good quality leather for this one, it will be a wardrobe staple for years to come.

The Sock Boot

Like him or loathe him (or love him – like he does) Kanye’s Yeezy Knit Boots were the talk of the fashion town, as was the Vetements Sock Boot. Can’t justify the exorbitant price-tag? Fear not, local shoe kingpin, Tony Bianco, has proffered up a very similar, and equally cool version.

The Contrasting Heel Boot

Block it out – boot wise; a fancy block heel is huge in the world of shoes. A block heel which is in stark contrast to the main composition of your boot, is making it’s mark on pavements and catwalks everywhere. Topshop, Asos and H & M are serving up deliciously trendy and affordable variations of top-notch styles.

The Statement Boot

Perfectly paired with raw denim or wardrobe basics, a wildly elaborate boot in snakeskin, print or embellishment is for those sartorially savvy sisters. Take heed of designers Gucci and Saint Laurent, and add a jab of pizazz and fancy to your feet.
