The fashion word is officially out on what you’ll be wearing this season after the kick off of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox lead a sea of models showcasing no less than 254 new season looks on the catwalk at Central Pier in Docklands, Melbourne.
Pretty winter pastels and luxe textures dappled the stronger monochromatic colour palettes of this Autumn-Winter 2015 season while 70’s inspired silhouettes made a come back and luxe casuals – particularly slouchy pants and coats – will put smiles on the faces of the fashion-forward, comfort-loving public.

The leap towards athletic wear has seen a raft of luxe leisure designs come through in the collections of the typically more tailored designers blurring the lines between exercise and day wear.
David Jones group executive of merchandise Donna Player said masculine-androgynous suiting style is making a big play in the market this season with Northern Beaches brand Bassike leading the way in dropped-crutch weekend glam, while Bianca Spender and mum Carla Zampatti are bringing their more structured approach to man-style pieces. Player says, “Geometric prints, romantic florals and winter pastels are also key trends for the new season.”

The Grand Prix didn’t deter almost 3000 fashion lovers from watching the two David Jones shows as VAMFF opened over the same weekend as one of the biggest days on the sporting calendar.
