Fashion Hits: Gigi & Bella’s Chanel Couture Debut, Alexander McQueen’s Biopic & More

#1 Gigi and Bella Hadid walk their first couture show together
Gigi made her couture debut appearance at Atelier Versace, and joined Bella for her debut couture show, Chanel. Both walked in Karl Lagerfeld’s 76-look eco-inspired collection dressed in luxuriously detailed evening wear.

As you can see in Gigi’s Instagram post below, the dress was embellished with wood chips, following Lagerfeld’s natural theme.

“The detail of @chanelofficial couture is genuinely moving. Such a beautiful show to be a part of! Thank you @karllagerfeld & the whole team x” @gigihadid.

#3 Alexander McQueen biopic in the making
Andrew Haigh, director of 45 years – in which Charlotte Rampling delivers an Oscar-nominated performance – has signed on to direct the biopic of the legendary Alexander McQueen.

The film will explore Alexander’s epic journey from working-class boy to leading international designer, which ended tragically when he committed suicide in 2010, the week after his mother died of cancer.

Known for his dark, bold, beautiful, fantasy-like designs and close fashion circle including Isabella Blow, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, his biopic will be a fantastic celebration of his life and masterful creations.

#4 Gemma Ward and Alessia Ambrosio walk in men’s runway shows
Australian model Gemma Ward returned to the catwalk after six years to walk in Prada’s show last year and has made another comeback, appearing in the Calvin Klein AW16 menswear show.

She was one of four females to join the cast, alongside Mariacarla Boscono, Jessica Miller and Iselin Steiro.

Calvin Klein’s creative director Italo Zucchelli spoke about the decision, “I wanted to give a statement about the power of tailoring. How it’s modern, how it looks good on everybody. It also can be sexy…tailoring on women is nice!”

It was another female take-over at Balmain, where Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Donaldson and Cindy Bruna were selected to join the menswear catwalk in Milan.

#7 Balmain Kids Collection Coming Soon
Olivier Rousteing has designed Balmain’s first ever children’s collection, arriving in stores and online in June, however Olivier is no stranger to designing for little ones. He is known for his custom creations for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter North West and admitted that is the inspiration for his new Balmain kids line.

“My little Balmain Ballerina” @kimkardashian.

Olivier has absolutely stuck to the Balmain code, with leather pants, cropped jackets and gold embroidery all featuring in the debut children’s collection and the campaign shots of the little #BalmainArmy are unbelievably cute.

The pieces will fit girls and boys from 6-14 years and will retail from €190 ($290) for a patterned tee to €5500 ($8475) for an embroidered dress.
