And in this interview with We Are Kindred designer Lizzie Renkert, the Super-blogger also explains why her first ever investment piece is now hidden in her wardrobe.
Lizzie Renkert: We are talking fashion trends with Nicole Warne, Nicole tell me your top 5 fashion trends coming up this season
Nicole Warne: There are so many to name, I saw when I was overseas: the revival of the 60s and 70s, Valentino which was one my favourite shows and even Louis Vuitton. Whether that was in the clothes or the accessories, I actually draw a lot of inspiration from those past areas because I started in vintage so I don’t really have style icons, but more so style eras that I draw a lot of inspiration from. So I really love seeing their modern take from the 60s and 70s in the silhouettes and I guess making them a lot more fresh and modern. Sneakers I guess which you know you saw in Chanel, which is a bit of fun.
Lizzie: I know, people are going to be walking around in comfortable shoes for the first time in a very long time.
Nicole: Yeah, I guess we can be comfortable and fashionable at the same time. I think it took a while for us to get there. I guess it’s going to be interesting to see how everyone is going to incorporate them into their outfits because it is fringing and the textures, fabrication…
Lizzie: Yeah the fringing not in a cowgirl way.
Nicole: Yeah making it look polished and chic! So yeah!
Lizzie: Modern?
Nicole: Yeah!
Lizzie: So who are your favourite designers?
Nicole: My favourite Australian designers would be Camilla and Marc, Carla Spedic as an up and coming designer, I love Dion Lee for his innovation and his vision. I also love Michaello Sordo – he is a good friend as well so I’m very supportive of everything he does. Internationally, I’ve got a top list. It’s Miu Miu, Chloe, Mulberry, and Valentino.
Lizzie: They rolled off the tongue very quickly
Nicole: I’ve had the same list, for such a long time! So that is what I’m working towards.
Lizzie: Do you have an item in your wardrobe which is your all time favourite?
Nicole: I do! So I still remember saving up for months for my first pair of designer heels. They were a pair of Miu Miu lofers from Sax that I ordered online and it was my first investment piece. I actually don’t wear them that much anymore they are sealed in a box in my wardrobe, but they are very sentimental to me. I love looking back at them and remembering the start of Gary Pepper, my first investment, I saved up the money to buy something a bit of a luxury. So yeah I still have them. I don’t think I will ever be letting them go to be honest.
Lizzie: No you shouldn’t, you should hold onto them for your children.
Nicole: That’s what I justify to myself, you will buy these to give to your children.
Lizzie: Perfect, I know I say that to my daughter, your so lucky… all of these handbags and coats.
Nicole: I’m buying this Chanel now, for you to have later! It’s a pretty good reason to justify the price tag.
Lizzie: Exactly cost per wear, if you keep them forever!
Nicole: That’s what I always tell myself, I did wear them alot
Lizzie: And you may pull them out again in another 5 years and start wearing them again.
Nicole: Well your feet never change size. So I’m going to have them for a very long time.
Lizzie: Thank you Nicole Warne
Nicole: Thank you
