Romantic Simplicity: Olivia & Hersch’s Wedding

The newlyweds: Olivia & Hersch

Big day: April 5.

“I love the month of April and Autumn weather. April 5 is also my parents’ wedding anniversary – it was their 34th anniversary on the day of our wedding, which was very special.”

Ceremony: The Mill, Portarlington, Victoria.

“The ceremony was held at the beautiful Portarlington Mill, an old building owned by the National Trust, which was once used as a Flour Mill. Our ceremony was short and sweet – we were actually were seated for our ceremony, which felt very intimate and our lovely celebrant delivered the ceremony to us. My beautiful Aunty, and her friend, created an amazing two metre long floral swag, which we got married beneath.”

Reception: Bellarine Estate Winery, Portarlington, Victoria.

“Bellarine Estate was the first place we visited, and loved it!”

The Dress: Karen Willis Holmes Kayla Gown

“I found the ‘Kayla’ gown on her website and I had to try it on. A friend of my sister’s wore the ‘Caitlyn Gown’ from the same collection, which is how I heard about Karen Willis Holmes. I went shopping with mum and probably tired on about six different styles just to see what suited me, but ‘Kayla was very different and so pretty! Nobody had ever seen it before!”

Hair: “My long-time friend, Mel, did my hair. She owns her own salon called The Nest Hair and Makeup Room.”

Photography: Smitten Wedding Photography

“Jenna and Jemima from Smitten Wedding Photography were absolutely amazing to work with! Jenna is a friend of my sister and was so much fun.”

How did you and Hersch meet?

“We met at a 90’s music night at a bar in Melbourne – nothing like a bit of Peter Andre and Spicegirls to spark a romance! We’ve been together for five years.”

Proposal story: “We got engaged in New York’s Central Park while holidaying. Hersch was so nervous that he put the ring on the wrong finger! And it was two sizes too big. Luckily we were so close to Tiffany’s on 5th Ave that we were able to have it resized that same day!”

Wedding Style: “I wanted the day to be simple, natural, pretty and a reflection of us. I did a lot of the styling myself, as I had spent months planning, Pinterest-ing and collecting jars, vases, candles etc. I really wanted a soft and romantic feel to the wedding, without it looking too DIY. There were flowers galore, candles everywhere and the atmosphere really just felt amazing.”

Bridal Party: “My sister, Morgan, was my bridesmaid. And Hersch’s best friend, Rudra, was his best man.”

The Day: “I was actually lucky enough to spend the day with my Aunt on an amazing Dahlia farm in Winchelsea, picking my own flowers for the wedding. As the sun went down, we got photographs taken in the vineyards of Bellarine Estate Winery, where our reception was held, while guests enjoyed pre dinner canapés and drinks.”

Decorations: “We hired festoon lighting through Pepper Sprout Hire, which created a carnival like atmosphere in the dance floor.”

Stationery: “My sister is a Graphic Designer and did all of my stationary, invites, menus, and signage herself. She is so unbelievably talented!”

Flowers: “The florist is my beautiful Aunty and friend from McQueens Florist (their own business).”

Cake: “My cake was White Chocolate and Raspberry Mud Cake. It was the best cake I’ve ever eaten! It went so quickly and people were asking for more!”
