I’m sure you’ve seen Kylie Jenner’s big smackers all over Instagram – you’d have to be blind not to notice. There’s something so sexy (and slightly ratchet) about her overdrawn nude lips… I have to say, I’m slightly obsessed. Here’s how to get the look without sucking on a shot glass.

Step 1 – You’ll need an ultra-smooth surface to work with before applying any colour products. To start, exfoliate lips with a scrub. Spread it over your lips, and up the ante with an electric device (sort of like an electric toothbrush minus the bristles) to buff away dead skin cells. Try Bliss Fabulips ‘Pout-O-Matic’, $59.95

Step 2 – For bigger and poutier lips, try a stimulating product to increase collagen production. This one from Transformulas uses cera alba to plump them up, and you’ll notice a subtle difference after using it three times a day for a week. Try Transformulas LipVolume, $49

Step 3 – Don’t let your hard work go to waste. Keep a moisturising lip balm in your handbag, on your work desk and by your bedside to keep your smackers hydrated. Keep a lookout for ingredients such as vitamin E and shea butter to deeply nourish the layers and prevent lips from chapping. Try Burt’s Bees Vanilla Bean Moisturising Lip Balm, $6.95

Step 4 – Lip liner should be your best friend whenever you’re applying lipstick. A clear or “invisible” one goes with every single colour in your lippie wardrobe and prevents the colour from feathering. Think of it as a primer for lips. Try Lipstick Queen Invisible Lip Liner, $24

Step 5 – Next, fill in your lips with a colour that’s slightly darker than your natural pout. Jane Iredale’s tinted lippies also contain ginger that help to stimulate blood circulation, temporarily plumping them up through the day. Try Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo, $58

Step 6 – Finish with a nourishing argan-oil infused lip gloss over the top to accentuate the look. A sheer one works with any lip colour you own – just make sure you apply it with fingers or a lip brush so your lipstick doesn’t stain the applicator. Try Rimmel London Oh My Gloss! in Crystal Clear, $13.95
