Over the last 12 months, with uncertainties regarding overseas imports, demand for Australian-made goods, especially food and drink, has skyrocketed!
According to research conducted earlier this May, it was found that nine out of 10 Aussie shoppers preferred buying local to overseas products.
“…the ongoing global supply chain issues has driven an increased interest from consumers on supporting local producers and manufacturers,” said Kelly Armstrong, Business Australia, Senior Manager, Strategic Advisory Consulting Services.
And it is precisely the uncertainties and issues surrounding international and domestic border closures that are making the decision to go local easier than ever. During these times, “convenience is king,” says Armstrong, and it helps that locally-sourced products in Australia are not only convenient, but fresh, high-quality, and supportive of local producers.
According to Business Australia, the three most in-demand sectors for Australian-made goods are:
Food & Drink
This trends has been prominent even before Covid-19 with ongoing bushfires and droughts devastating local regions in Australia.
Aussies are now buying directly from farmers and producers, and buying local seafood that was originally headed for China right from their supermarkets.
Health & Wellbeing
Quality, organic, and natural products are not only characteristics that Aussies look for in their food, but also their health and wellbeing products. Australians trust locally-produced products more than ever before.
Pharmaceuticals
While this has been a steadily-growing sector, this an area with even more potential for growth
