Report by author and Podcast Host Bahar Etminan
Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked with, interviewed and met some of the most beautiful men and women in the world, and the glam squad and experts they have on speed dial to create their flawless images. What I’ve come to learn is that beauty and vitality has nothing to do with age. It’s an attitude and can rise or fall in direct proportion of that person’s investment and investment in self care, lifestyle choices, what I like to call tweakments and how much they respect their personal brand.
Having been a beauty entrepreneur, editor and consultant, I have learned a thing or two from being in the business of beauty for over two decades.
At 47, I feel I am living proof that Ageless is an attitude. I look and feel better than I did at 35. I am certainly fitter, healthier and some would say prettier. My skin glows and my life experience has turned up as a confident twinkle in my eyes. I am excited that science and innovation are on my side for the next 45 years, and truly believe that the best is yet to come.
Ageless Australia
Australia ranks in the top 10 countries according to cosmetic surgery spend. In 2017, our outlay hit the billion-dollar mark: 40% higher than the US per capita. In excess of $350 million-worth was spent on wrinkle reduction procedures in the same year.
Interestingly the top 5 cosmetic procedures in Australia are anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, laser and IPL, breast augmentation and reduction, and liposuction. (IBISWorld) The beauty and non-invasive rejuvenation industry is a further secondary market. In 2020, Australians spent $2.5b on skincare products and $3.8b on body and sunscreen products. This is forecast to grow by 5.6% in 2021.
So I made it myself..
When I realised that women my age and older wanted more than just an influencer’s opinion or a fashion magazine to rely on when it comes to taking control of their ageless journey I decided to create the platform. Women 55-65 represent the most powerful segment of luxury and high spend consumers in this market and still brands and marketers are not speaking to them.
Last month I launched a podcast channel Ageless by Rescu which launched at number 4 on Apple podcasts for Beauty and Fashion category. This month I launched a Digital Magazine of the same name as a deep dive into the world of rejuvenation, cosmetic enhancement, and modern beauty. I opened up my little black book of celebrities, scientists, surgeons and experts to explore what it means to be vital and perennially beautiful in this post pandemic moment.
Education and transparency
My mission has always been to bring perceptive, captivating content, no-spin reviews, and truly expert advice from the brightest thinkers, doers and achievers in the business. This podcast and magazine are a natural extension of my book, digital platform and passion for the science of beauty and vitality.
More importantly, in an industry plagued by somewhat exploitative and confusing messages, I hope that the AGELESS by Rescu platform will serve as an educational hub allowing women direct access to best practice experts and cutting edge innovations in this space in Australia and globally.
My Ageless Rituals
I follow Dr David Sinclair’s rejuvenation bible Lifespan- why we age and why we don’t have to.
I take prescribed and compounded DHEA, NAD+ booster, Prescription Metformin, a diabetes medication to level out my blood sugar and it’s a proven anti-aging miracle on so many accounts, a zinc supplement, collagen and greens supplement powders and pre and probiotics for gut health. I also do intermittent fasting. 16 hours a day and try to drink at least 1.5 litres of water.
Reducing stress and cortisol levels is key to reversing ageing and feeling vital. I start each morning with 20 mins TM meditation and try to walk 10-15KM a day. I do cardio/ strength or pilates 3 x a week for flexibility, tone and bone density. Each day I do some breathwork and a grounding exercise and try to get my feet into sea water or grass to connect with nature. I believe in the restorative power of music and dance and I dance at least once a week at an online class, PS4 Just Dance with my daughter or around the house. Listening to 80’s music transports me to my teens and I instantly feel young. Listening to new music is also really important for me to feel youthful and relevant. No sense being stuck in the past. Belting out a Dua Lipa remix makes me feel young and sexy.
I listen to audio books (biographies, therapy and wellness) and I read fiction. I try not to watch the news and I don’t like any films, books or shows that spike my stress and cortisol. That’s the worst thing you can do for ageing. I love to sleep and regularly get a good 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I sleep on silk pillow cases which are better for your skin and prevent wrinkles.
My skincare routine is epic. I am devoted to my skin. I use active cosmeceutical products, spf 50, have regular facials and treatments, injectibels, lasers, LED light therapy and try not to wear makeup at least 3 days a week. I always always clean my face and teeth properly and with great care. Teeth are the most underrated and important aspect of ageing well. You’d be surprised how much this one tip will transform your face.
