However, what do we do when it comes to our makeup?
We can’t still be using the same sun-suitable cosmetics. We need things to brighten where the sun doesn’t and stuff that will stay in place when we get a face full of (un-sexy) windswept hair.
To help you still look radiant and gorgeous in the harshest of elements, here are our five favourite tips from Zoe Foster’s new book Amazinger Face.
- Why would you wear gloss in winter?
No seriously, it might be an obvious one but it’s one you need to remember. It’s windy and your hair loves the wind and it will always definitely get stuck to your lips.
Zoe’s tip: Go for a lipstick, lip butter or lip stains and hydrating tints (which will also protect lips from the wind) instead.
- Use stuff that will stay put – hello stains and tints
This awful weather also means awful staying ability for makeup. Your perfectly applied blush or pout are not going to have the same lifespan as they do in the summer. Instead use a cheek and lip tint or stain it will add some long-lasting colour. Come rain or shine that stuffs going to stay; it’s called a stain for a reason, but this is the good kind.
Zoe’s tip: Try Benfit Posietinint or Cha Cha Tint.
- Waterproofs are not just part of your wardrobe
Get out the waterproof mascara, eyeliner and shadow, yes you will need a good eye-makeup remover, but it’s rain and windproof.
Zoe’s tip: Try MAC paints smudged on the eyelids.
- Hat it up
Before you head outside to brave the cold blowdry, smooth and style your hair as much as you desire. Prepare it with mousse and finish it with a humidity-proof hairspray or lacquer to keep as many of those unavoidable fly-aways in place. Then carefully pop on a chic beanie or hat over your perfect do.
Zoe’s tip: John Freida have a good humidity-fighting hairspray.
- Let your lips do the talking
Focus on your lips and make them the stand out through the storm. Go for a bold matte lip, think deep red wine and rich winter hues. Add some colour into these grey days with a pout that pops.
Zoe’s tip: Try a matte lipstick with bronzer and lots of lovely black lashes (waterproof, of course) on a backdrop of full, semi-matte coverage (eye-lids included) when the weather is turbulent.
