5 Reasons White Wine Is A Winter Winner

When the temperature begins to drop many of us tend to choose red wine over white – after all, white wine is a summer drink, isn’t it? And while there’s no denying a deep, rich red is an ideal drink to enjoy beside a roaring fire, there’s a wide range of white wine varieties which pair perfectly with warming, winter meals.

Despite some common misconceptions, crisp or creamy white wines can be just as cosy and comforting as reds. In fact, bolder white wines may even suit traditional winter foods better than some red wines. The reality? There’s no such thing as a ‘wine season’; there’s only the right time to enjoy what you love.

Here are five reasons you should enjoy whites in winter:

  1. White wine in winter is a winner

If you typically pair your warming Sunday roast with red wine, think again. Rich or slightly fattier foods can become overwhelmed by a deep red wine. Instead, choose a glass of the Naturalis Organic Chardonnay which helps to cut through the richness of the dish and help balance the flavours.

2. Even Italians drink white wine with pasta

If you’ve been missing your annual trip to Europe, why not bring a little bit of Italy to your dinner table? While many of us think pasta dishes should be served alongside a full-bodied red, for many Italians, a zesty, crisp white such as the Angove Organic Pinot Grigio perfectly complements spaghetti with prawns, chilli and garlic. If tomato-based pasta meals are more to your taste, enjoy your serving with a glass or two of Wild Olive McLaren Vale Fiano. Take a sip, savour it, and imagine sunning yourself on the Mediterranean shores.

3. Sweet and spicy can mix

Some white wine varieties with a fruity base can bring out the spiciness of your curries. Pour yourself a glass and enjoy the lightly oaked taste of a Long Row Chardonnay with your vindaloo. If you like a laksa, the Angove Organic Pinot Grigio’s delicate nashi pear, green apple and citrus flavours will enhance a hearty laksa or a green chicken curry.

4. Summon up summer

Is there anything better than a long winter walk along the beach, with the wind in your hair and the sun on your shoulders? Spending time outdoors can do your soul some good, so why not make a day of it and have a beach party at your favourite seaside spot? Chill your favourite white – we like the Naturalis Organic Sauvignon Blanc – and pair it with some freshly-cooked fish and chips as the sun goes down.

5. Celebrate your life

There is always something to celebrate, even in winter. If bubbles are your go-to celebration drop, Naturalis Organic Cuvee is the perfect commemorative drink. Prepare a cheese and cured meat platter to enjoy with it and toast to living your best life.
