Right in the heart of the Mudgee Region of New South Wales is spectacular Gooree Park – the home of ‘Wine and Wagyu’ BBQ’s.

In a nod to this popular event, our food guru Lyndey Milan has created a dish to represent both the vines which produce the property’s award-winning wines and the magnificent Wagyu cattle bred and raised there.

Gooree Park is best known for its thoroughbred horses – champions at racetracks across the country – so where better to whip up a delicious burger-with-a-difference than overlooking the spectacular track where all the action takes place.

Gooree Park was established by Lloyd Foyster (below) in 1963 as a thoroughbred horse stud where he bred multiple group one winners including Ming Dynasty and Mighty Kingdom – winners of three Caulfield Cups in four years. Lloyd built a dam with a three mile circumference and a world class racecourse with a longer straight than Randwick where he trained his horses. He later sold the property to the Cojuanco family, who own the property today.

Prepare for your mouth to water as Lyndey takes a Wagyu beef patty, two vine leaves, a toasty base and tops the lot with hommus to create a burger-with-a-twist. Team it up with a glass of Gooree Park red – and what do you have?

One of the very best locally-produced lunches you can get.

Gooree Park Wine & Wagyu BBQ’s are held from 12-3pm on select dates throughout the year, they take place on the Park’s family-friendly picnic area. Enjoy a home-grown Wagyu burger and grab a bottle of Gooree wine to compliment lunch, then just sit back and let the live music set the tone for a great relaxed afternoon
