Grab the leash, roll out the red carpet, and fluff the fur – because the RSPCA Rescue Dog Star Search is in full swing, and if you’re a pet parent, you’d be barking mad to miss it! Closing this Thursday August 28, this tail-wagging talent hunt is giving one lucky rescue dog the chance to go from underdog to top dog, just in time to celebrate International Dog Day. Talk about paw-some timing!

From kennel to camera-ready

Behind every rescue pup is a bone-afide blockbuster story: ruff beginnings, rocky roads, and remarkable rebounds. Now, the RSPCA is giving one pooch the chance to fetch fame and fortune – well, a $1,000 pet prize pack, endless bragging rights, and a starring role as the furry face of the RSPCA Lottery. This meant that your scruffy sidekick could soon be plastered across national campaigns, wagging their way into hearts faster than you can say “sit, spot!”

But, this contest isn’t just about treats and tummy rubs. It’s a chance to shine a spotlight on the 81,000 animals cared for by the RSPCA in the past year alone. Every entry, every lottery ticket, and every wag helps raise funds that keep tails wagging, kennels cosy, and second chances rolling.

How to paw-ticipate

This star search is no dog’s breakfast. It’s simple as sit, stay, snap:

  1. Post a paw-trait (or video) of your rescue rascal on Facebook or Instagram.
  2. Tell the tail (pun intended) of why they deserve the spotlight – cheeky antics, cuddly charms, or couch-hogging charisma.
  3. Enter via Facebook or Instagram.

Entries close midnight, Thursday 28 August 2025, so don’t paws too long – or you’ll miss your chance to collar the crown. The winner will be unleashed in October, and let’s just say the paw-parazzi will be ready.

A howl-worthy International Dog Day

What better way to honour International Dog Day than by celebrating rescue dogs who’ve clawed their way from rags to wags? It’s a day to salute the tail-chasers, slipper-snatchers, and cuddle-commanders who make our lives paw-sitively better. The RSPCA’s competition gives these four-legged legends the standing ovation they deserve – and a shot at the spotlight brighter than a squeaky neon tennis ball.

Rescue dogs remind us that even when life goes to the dogs, there’s always a chance to turn the page from “ruff” to radiant. From scrappy strays to sofa kings and queens, they steal our hearts, hog our beds, and leave paw prints all over our lives. And really, isn’t that worth celebrating?

More than bones and belly rubs

Sure, the glory is great, but the real star here is the cause. Every RSPCA Lottery ticket sold helps provide food, vet care, shelter, and safety for thousands of animals still waiting for their forever families. It’s more than a game of fetch – it’s funding futures, fuelling hope, and fighting cruelty.

So, let’s raise the woof this International Dog Day. Snap that photo, share that story, and show off the pup who turned your life from ordinary to paw-some. Because whether they’re goofy, gorgeous, or gloriously grumpy, every rescue dog is already a star in their human’s eyes.

This competition just gives them the stage – and the standing ap-paws – they’ve always deserved.
