Just because it’s Winter Down Under doesn’t mean we have to wait until December to indulge in a little festive cheer. In fact, there’s something irresistibly cosy about celebrating Christmas in July – with the oven on, the scent of cinnamon in the air and warm treats straight from the tray. These Nutella-stuffed cinnamon rolls are the ultimate Winter warmer, with a soft, pillowy dough, a swirl of spiced sweetness, and a generous drizzle of chocolatey goodness to bring that yuletide magic to your mid-year gathering. Whether you’re sipping mulled wine or just craving something comforting, this recipe is your shortcut to a very merry midwinter

INGREDIENTS

21g yeast
185ml milk
3 eggs
300g flour
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp brown sugar
A pinch of salt
70g butter
½ tbsp of cinnamon
1 tbsp of Nutella per cinnamon roll

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large bowl, add flour and create a well in the centre. Pour the milk into the well, then add the sugar and yeast. Mix with a fork, let sit for 10 minutes. Add the 2 eggs and combine with a mixer, then knead by hand until smooth

Let the dough rest for two hours, then refrigerate for two hours. Once the dough has finished proofing, mix the remaining sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a separate, microwave-safe bowl, and then melt in the microwave. Roll out the dough and evenly spread the cinnamon mixture over it, to the edges

Roll up the dough and slide it into smaller rolls. Arrange them into a Christmas tree shape on a baking tray. Cover them with a towel and allow them to rest for 2 hours

Preheat the oven to 180C. Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the rolls. Place the rolls in the oven and bake for 30-40minutes, until they turn golden brown. Allow them to cool before adding a topping of Nutella. Enjoy!

Bonus Tip: Embrace the Christmas in July theme with a couple of stocking stuffers, like the new Kinder Surprise Disney Princess and Minions ranges, which can be found across major supermarkets in Australia.
