Your ultimate French Manicure DIY Guide

Many women are too hesitant to try the DIY option so spend a fortune on getting a professional French Manicure. Well not any more! Here’s how it’s done, using the very latest in nail colours.

Modern French Manicures were every where on the international runways particularly New York and today I’m going to show you a beautiful french manicure using a gorgeous Berry Shade by Essie and a lovely Gold Shade by Sally Hanson. I also really love this one by OPI as well. It is a particularly great look for autumn and winter. So let’s get started.
To start, shape your nails into your desired shape. I’m squaring my nails off and making them quite short which makes them better with darker nail polish colours. Next take a cotton pad soaked with nail polish remover. We want to remove any oils which may still be on the nail bed, next take your base coat. I’m using this one by Dior and apply it to each of your nails. Once your nail base is dry grab some french manicure strips – these are fantastic for creating the perfect straight line. I just want to create a contrasting line so I’m sticking the strip along the tip of the nail. I’m Using Essie Nail colour in Bahama mama as my main colour. It’s a beautiful berry shade which looks great on all different skin tones. Once your first coat is dry, then apply a second one. So that’s the two shades of the berry shade done.
I’m going to allow this to dry before showing you how to apply the gold one that’s dried. It’s time to peel off the strips. You should have a clean and clear natural nail shade showing. This is where my gold nail polish is going to go. Today, I’m using Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Golden I. If you want to be really precise, you can use a small paint brush, like I am but your nail polish brush would work just fine, you will have to give it a minute of drying time between each coat. Once your nails have completely dried it’s time to seal your look. I’m using orly matte Top coat on one hand to give it a matt effect and Sally Hanson’s Big Shiny Top Coat on the other hand. A few dry drops by OPI and we are good to go.
So there you go, the beautiful modern french manicure. You can use any colours you like. Show us your take on the modern french manicure via The Carousel’s Instagram and Facebook Page!
