It isn’t always easy to stay entertained on a rainy day. There is only so much Netflix and Angry Birds a person can handle before their eyes turn square and phone overheats.

So who took the Gold Medal?

Topping the list for the third year running is international best-seller The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

This novel is doing Australians mighty proud, being the only ever home grown book to be voted no.1.

Markus said it was an honour to be awarded the top spot again.

“To be on this list at all is unthinkable in itself, but to be at the top is a bit mind-blowing. Dymocks is such an iconic bookshop, and I’m so grateful to everyone who voted, not only for The Book Thief, but everything on the list. It shows how much Australia still loves books.”

In total, twenty-two Australian books make the list, an increase of 22 per cent on last year.

Plenty of classics made the cut such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hobbit, Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. This shows that Aussie society knows there stuff when it comes to the world of text.

For the first time the list features a cookbook (Everyday Superfood by Jamie Oliver) and a colouring book (The Enchanted Forest by Johanna Basford).
