If you haven’t been asked how much protein you’re getting by 9am, are you even trying? Between gym chats, TikTok nutritionists and the back-of-packet maths we’re all suddenly expected to do, protein has developed a level of peer pressure not unlike being a teenager in the schoolyard … except instead of cigarettes, it’s scoops of powder and high-protein snacks being pushed your way. And while we’re not here to shame anyone into choking down another dry chicken breast, we are here for clever, genuinely tasty ways to get it in. Enter these bite-sized breakfast balls: easy, make-ahead and proof that protein doesn’t have to feel like a punishment.

INGREDIENTS

  • ¾ cup ground almonds
  • ½ cup vanilla or chocolate protein powder
  • ¼ cup apple butter (or apple sauce)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened desiccated coconut
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

To serve

  • 5g (1 tsp) Nutella per bite

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place almonds, protein powder, apple butter or sauce, coconut, oats, maple syrup and cinnamon into a food processor. Pulse until mixed.
  2. Roll mixture into 16 little bite-sized balls.
  3. Serve each breakfast bite with 1 teaspoon of Nutella. We love them with fresh fruit or a cold glass of milk.

Tasty Tip:
These yummy bites are great to make ahead and have on hand for an easy snack! They’re also perfect for taking with you on long walks!
