Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!It was a confronting first question for Bruce Jenner, who has just aired his final interview as a man on America’s ABC. “People are convinced that this is a stunt for publicity,” asked ABC journalist Diane Sawyer. She was right. There had been months of speculation in the tabloid magazines about Bruce Jenner’s possible gender transformation and the journey being made into a reality TV show. Bruce’s response? “Are you telling me that I would go through a complete gender change… for the show? Sorry Diane, it ain’t happening. Do you have any idea what I have been going through my whole life?”
The former Olympian athlete and famous father of the Kardashians, Bruce, 65, was in tears before the interview had even begun, acknowledging that his revelation was a long time coming. “I have always been confused about my gender identity, since I was this big,” Bruce told Diane. “Bruce, has lived a lie his whole life about who he is. I can’t do that any longer.”
When asked if he identified as a woman, he replied, “Yes, for all intents and purposes, I am a woman. That female side of me is part of me. That’s who I am. I was not genetically born that way. Umm, as of now I have all the male parts and all that kind of stuff. In a lot of ways, we’re different, but we still identify as female. ”
So how have Kim, Khloe, Kendall, Kourtney and ‘ko dealt with the revelation? “I tried to explain it to them this way: God is looking down, making little Bruce. He says, ‘Ok, what are we going to do with this one?’ He gave me all these wonderful qualities… And then at the end when he is just finishing, he has a little chuckle and says, ‘Let’s give him the soul of a female, and see how he deals with that’.”
The internet almost broke with social media support for Bruce, with Ellen DeGeneres, Sam Smith and a host of big names declaring their unity, empathy and respect. In Australia, KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jacki O Show invited listeners to #paintyournailsforbruce while #brucejenner has more than 124,000 posts.
