Working from home tends to be the most preferred way of working in the recent past probably because of the better work-life balance it provides. Not having to deal with stressful commutes, having flexible working hours, as well as working in your own personal space has a way of increasing creativity and driving optimum productivity. To stay productive, however, you need to set up your home office for success. Here are a few tips to consider if you want to create a perfect home office.

1. Choose an ideal room

The first thing to do in creating a perfect home office is choosing the correct room or space to set it up. A space that is separate from the rest of the house is the most ideal because it means fewer distractions. However, if you don’t have the privilege, choose a room with a door to keep off the noise and distractions. Additionally, you can even bring some plants or flowers to your room and you can add some grow lights if you want them to grow faster. By doing so you will give your space a nice and fresh look.

2. Follow ergonomic rules

Staying healthy is paramount for your productivity. Ensure that you are taking care of your eyes by following the ergonomic rules. For your eyes health, the top of your screen should be at eye level or slightly lower. The keyboard should be in a position that allows your arms to be parallel to the floor. As you sit, your legs should rest firmly on the floor; get a footrest if you are shorter.

3. Let in more natural light

home, office

Natural light improves the quality of life and hence productivity. Ensure that your office space can let in as much natural light as possible. If the space you have chosen has limited natural light, consider adding an extra window. Adding a new window to the house actually gives you an opportunity to replace the siding of your house if you have been meaning to. In case you need to replace your home’s siding, it would be a great idea to do it concurrently with window renovations as that allows the siding contractor to put the window capping well in place before installing the siding.

4. Ensure the office is weld lit for dark hours

Working from home will sometimes require you to work at night when natural light has already faded away. Ensure that you have your office fitted with light fixtures that light your workspace brightly so that you don’t strain yours much. Consider small lamps placed on your desk, or a task light just above your workspace. Additionally, you can go for designer fixtures to give your office a more personalized feel.

5. Get the right furniture

You spend more than half of your time in the office seated, thus you will need a chair that is comfortable for your back, neck and shoulders to avoid having a backache or a shoulder strain. Check carefully the back, arm and thigh support when purchasing one to ensure that you get the right fit.

It is recommended not to sit for long hours as it can have adverse effects on your health over time. Consider investing in a standing desk so that you can work standing at some points to give your back a rest. You, however, do not have to buy one if you feel it is expensive, you can choose a standing desk extender which is a cheaper option.

6. Get the right technology

laptop, work

Invest in the right technology depending on the nature of your work. You can buy a desktop, but if you are required to go out to meet your clients, a laptop would be better. You can, however, have both and assign some tasks such as researching to one and work with the other. This will save the stress of juggling between windows in your work computer. Don’t forget to purchase a printer, scanner, high internet speed and modem among others.

7. Stock up office supplies

For your work to run efficiently, you need to have office supplies readily available. Ensure you stock up on papers, ink cartridges, pens, notepads, folders and pens and any other supply you may need. It is important that you replenish your supplies in time to avoid running out of necessary items.

8. Organize your space

An organized office boosts morale and improves productivity. To organize your office better, create storage spaces for your supplies. A filing cabinet, shelves or storage boxes can do. Remember also to organize the wires so that they don’t look jumbled and messy.

Conclusion

Creating your home office gives you the ability to design it your own way, and that’s a plus when it comes to your productivity. Throw in your favorite colors, designs, décor to give it a more personalized feel.  You can also place a vase with your favorite flowers on your desk for inspiration.
