As one of our favourite Australian skincare and makeup stockists ever (gee, that’s a big call!), we were thrilled to speak to Irene Falcone, founder of Nourished Life about her thriving beauty and health online business.

Describe your average day at work.

Every day is different! The day usually begins with a team meeting and WIP plus a debrief of the craziness from the day before. The day is usually then filled up by going to supplier presentations to check out the latest products and brands, meetings with my accountant, working with my marketing and communications team and doing private consultations with customers to help them go toxin-free.

Why do you think it is so important to use natural skincare products?

In the same way that eating junk food leads to health issues, the same can be said about the junk we put on our bodies every day. Our skin is our largest organ and it is said that “up to 60% of what we put on it can be absorbed”, so slathering vitamin and mineral rich plant extracts and cold pressed oils on our skin is going to be so much better for us than petro-chemicals and Parabens.

Immediately you’re going to notice clearer, more radiant and younger looking skin because so many petro-chemicals & synthetics can clog up pores as well as causing irritation, while harsh cleansers and preservatives dry out our skin making it appear dull and older than we are.

What surprised you the most in the process of creating Nourished Life?

How important it was to have a great team around you that are not only savvy and innovative but who also share the same vision and passion as you.

You get lots of passionate users comment on Facebook and the site. What’s the best thing you’ve learnt from speaking to members of your community?

I’ve learnt how hugely important it is to be completely yourself and honest. Don’t try to be someone you’re not or portray a perfect image, people like to know that they’re getting the real you!

Do you have any tips for other people wanting to start an online business?

Before you put anything into action make sure you’ve got really good systems in place like a stock control system, accounting, a marketing and promotions calendar, a system to delegate work etc. Be organised!

Do you eat really healthily as well? If yes, why?

I have an 80/20 rule so 80% of the time I eat as healthy as possible which includes lots of organic fruits and vegetables, mueslis, almond milk, kombucha, my Carla Oates Body Powder, salads and my husband’s slow cooked dinners! I believe in everything in moderation so sometimes I allow myself some chocolate, corn chips or take out but eating healthy the majority of the time gives me the energy I need to run my business and keep up with my kids!

What are 3 products from your site that you can’t live without?

Dr. Alkaitis Treatment Oil – This is my go-to multipurpose oil for moisturising, pimples, sunburn healing and to give my skin a little extra lift. It works by stimulating the skin’s natural ability to repair itself and can be used all over the face and body.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream – My saviour after a long night! This eye cream actually works magic to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Lavera CC Cream – I don’t have time in the morning to apply a full face of makeup and this sheer, colour correcting cream just helps to even out my skin tone and cover any imperfections with minimal effort.

What’s your favourite all-natural beauty product? Tell us in the comments below.
