Cate Blanchett revealed she is ‘over the moon’ with her newly adopted baby girl when she attended yesterday’s Sydney’s premiere of the new Disney film Cinderella.

Dressed in a stunning orange and lilac ankle-sweeping dress by Roksanda Ilincic, the Oscar-winning actress was accompanied by husband Andrew Upton on the blue carpet.

She stars as the stepmother in Disney’s spectacular remake of the fairytale classic Cinderella, which has already proven to be a huge hit in the U.S., debuting with $70.1 million in sales.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the movie also features Lily James as Cinderella, Richard Madden as the Prince, and Helena Bonham Carter as Fairy Godmother.

“It’s everything you want in a fairytale,” said Blanchett speaking at the premiere held at Sydney’s State Theatre.

“Ken kept talking about kindness as a super power and that everyone is talking about how hard you can punch and how brave you can be but how kind you can be actually comes back at you.

“For the first time, I think, seeing the film I understood what makes Cinderella tick. That was a really big thing for me. I didn’t really understand that growing up. ”

Blanchett also talked about the fabulous costumes designed by award winning designer Sandy Powell.

“They are all beautiful,” she said referring to the lavish outfits. “I wore a lot of green in the film and I call the one I wore to the ball the Gherkin dress because I look like a big pickle. It was a Sandy Powell pickle.”

She also spoke about her recent adoption of a baby girl from the U.S. named Edith Vivian Patricia Upton. The Upton-Blanchett family also have 3 boys – Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, 6.

“We’re absolutely besotted and over the moon. She’s got three adoring brothers,” said Blanchett, 45.

“There’s a lot of children out there that don’t have the good fortune of our biological children so it’s lovely to welcome a little girl.”
