Boho Beauty: Byron Bay Designer Shares Her Secrets To A Stress-Free Glow

Long gone are the days of a five-stage beauty routine with one eye on the clock, says bohemian wanderer Chloe Brookman.

Since moving her family and base for the global home décor brand Olli Ella to the Byron Bay hinterland, the former Sydneysider has embraced a simpler life in every way imaginable.

“We are so excited to, along with our children, be living a slower pace of life and spending time together as a family,” Chloe tells The Carousel.

“Personally, I’ve already felt a huge shift emotionally, just living outside of a busy city. Everything here feels so comfortable and calm. Effortless.”

The mum-of-three says her skin is loving the change of pace too – here’s how she gets that boho look.

AM

I use a black algae cleanser in the mornings followed by a splash of cold water to close my pores. After patting my face dry, I apply my favourite moisturiser, which changes based on the weather. Right now, I’m loving Waleda’s Rose Face Cream.

A Little Extra Coverage

A tinted moisturiser allows my skin to breath and doesn’t clog up my pores. My favourite tinted moisturiser is by Dr. Young, which has an SPF of 30.

Lippy

I’m not a fan of glossy lacquers or heavy lipstick. Instead I use a nourishing lip balm or add a dab of neutral shade to both my lips and my cheeks to help contour.

Brush Up

I’ll give my eyebrows a little brush or pencil definition, and if I’m going to a meeting or out at night I’ll apply thin black or dark brown eye liner under my eyes and light mascara (I’ve used Maybelline since I was 17 and will be loyal for ever!)

Inside Beauty

When it comes to complexion I know that nutrition and hydration are key! I always have a water bottle with me at all times and we are so fortunate in Byron to have beautiful produce from the local fruit and vegetable stores and markets. My go-to skin snack is a mix of almonds, cashews, cranberries, and pumpkin seeds.

I start the day with a cup of coffee, and once a month I’ll use the coffee grounds as a facial exfoliant (I swear it works wonders!)

Purify the Body

At night, I use a few drops of Jojoba oil or Rose Hip Oil (rather than a heavy night moisturiser) to hydrate my face.

I feel most beautiful when I’m with my favourite people.  Throw in a belly laugh to your day, every day. For me, beauty is that simple.
