Great hair starts in the shower and getting your routine right can make all the difference. Follow this simple, salon-inspired ritual to deeply cleanse, nourish and revive your strands.

Step 1: Start With a Detox Cleanse

Begin by thoroughly wetting your hair, then gently squeeze out any excess water. Dispense a small amount of shampoo, roughly the size of a 10-cent coin, into your palm and massage it into your scalp using the pads of your fingers, focusing on the hairline. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

“A detoxifying shampoo will effectively remove styling build-up and daily grime,” says hairstylist Elyston Hayden.

Try: O&M Original Detox Shampoo

Step 2: Follow With a Targeted Shampoo

Lightly squeeze out excess water again and repeat the cleansing process—this time using a shampoo tailored to your hair’s specific needs.

“The right formula can nourish brittle strands, protect coloured hair, or add volume to fine, limp hair,” Hayden explains.

Try: John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Colour Protecting Moisturising Shampoo

Step 3: Deeply Condition

For an instant hydration boost, apply a deep-conditioning mask through the mid-lengths and ends about the size of a 20-cent coin. Avoid the roots to prevent unwanted oiliness.

“Keeping conditioner away from the scalp helps avoid product build-up—no one wants greasy roots,” says Hayden.

Try: O&M The Power Base

Step 4: Detangle and Let It Work

Allow the mask to sit for 2–5 minutes, then gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb to detangle.

“The warmth of the shower helps the treatment penetrate deeper into the hair, maximising results,” Hayden notes.

Step 5: Seal and Shine

Finish by rinsing your hair with cool water to seal the cuticle and smooth away frizz, leaving your hair glossy and refreshed.

“It’s important to treat your hair like your skin—investing in quality products really pays off,” says Hayden.
