Getting Older Without Looking Older

The great Benjamin Franklin once said “Nothing is certain in life except death and taxes.” I’d like to add something to that list and that’s getting older.

Every day that you are blessed to grace this planet will equal an extra day to your age – this means you will never, ever be as young as you are today. Ouch! However while getting older is inevitable there are ways to look younger.

What causes our skin to age?

Research shows that there are two distinct types of ageing. Ageing caused by the genes we inherit is called “internal ageing”. The other type of ageing, caused by environmental factors such as exposure to the sun and smoking is known as “external ageing”.

Unfortunately you have little control over internal ageing.

Without you, like it or not, your genes will determine how your face and body respond to the ageing process. If you are fortunate enough to know older members of your family, you may see patterns of ageing in their faces and bodies. This can include furrows in the brow or forehead, tiny lines or crinkles around the eyes, drooping eyelids, along with the tendency to develop cellulite and bags under the eyes.

As for external ageing, well you can control these factors. You can choose to wear lots of sunscreen, avoid smoking, keep out of pollution and grab lots of quality sleep.

You can, however, get older without looking your age…

Thankfully there are lots of non-surgical cosmetic treatments you can embrace in order to thwart the ageing process. The best treatments include:

Anti-wrinkle treatments:

Anti-wrinkle treatments are designed to relax muscles that cause facial expression. Once the muscle is relaxed the overlying wrinkles will soften and reduce. This treatment can be used to treat: frown lines, forehead, crow’s feet, marionette lines, necks, excessive sweating and gummy smiles and usually last around 4 months.

Derma Fillers:

Dermal Fillers are products designed to contour, create volume, fill lines and hydrate the skin and are usually used for the treatment of lips, facial lines, wrinkles and facial folds. The results are immediate and can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. There are so many possibilities with derma fillers – they can be used for cheek augmentation, lip restoration, lip volume, fine lines and wrinkles, hand rejuvenation, neck, chest rejuvenation, smoothing of jowls and facial folds, reduction of tear troughs and dark circles under eyes and replacing volume in hollow temples.

These two treatments, in combination with doing all the right stuff (you do know what that is, right? -stop smoking, drink plenty of water, eat well, use sunscreen with SPF 30+ every day and exercise regularly) will keep you looking younger, even as you age.

What do you do to look younger? Tell us your secrets below!…
