“A v-steam – try it!” she smiled encouragingly.

Since she first started Goop.com in 2008, and wrote about the merits of steaming your vagina like broccoli, the actress has become the patron saint of wellness and wacky beauty treatments.

“The first time I tried v-steaming, I was like, This is insane,” she tells The Cut.

“My friend Ben brought me one and I was like, ‘You are out of your f****n mind. What is this?’ But then by the end of it I was like, ‘This is so great’.

“Then I start to do research, and it’s been in Korean medicine for thousands of years and there are real healing properties.

“If I find benefit to it and it’s getting a lot of page views, it’s a win-win.”

Gwyneth says her website keeps her motivated to try all the unusual beauty treatments.

“We’ve sort of taken on the responsibility of trying all that stuff. And like I said, I actually really like being the guinea pig. Some of my other girls are guinea pigs for stuff, too, but I enjoy trying things.

“I don’t necessarily endorse all of them, but I like to try them and write about them. It makes for really good content.”

Gwyneth is also not bothered by the way she divides public opinion with her often outlandish comments, such as her ‘unconscious coupling’ from former husband Chris Martin.

Pearlers like that one, and a Goop blog about how she’d rather smoke crack than eat spray cheese, helped earn her ‘The Most Hated Celebrity’ title in 2013 from one tabloid.

Gwyneth Paltrow Defends Vagina Steaming: ‘It Has Real Healing Qualities’5

“First of all I was like, ‘I’m the most hated celebrity?’ More than, like, Chris Brown? What did I do? All I can do is be my authentic self, but I think there are things about me that make people draw conclusions,” she tells BBC News recently.

“For example, there is the perception that I grew up very wealthy and that I was given, you know, that I was sort of raised with a silver spoon in my mouth, which inspires a lot of resentment.

“He [my father] said, ‘You are completely on your own. So he never gave me anything. I never had any supplementation, he never helped me with my rent, I never had a trust fund. So the idea that I am spoiled or that I didn’t work for what I have, that’s just not accurate. But I can see how somebody might have that perception.”
