We’ll freely admit that a martini is truly a naughty way to start the day, but on Mother’s Day, we’ll make an exception. In fact, let’s look at it as an alternative to a Mimosa, and surprise Mum with a twist on her special day.

The The Mysteries Surrounding The Martini

These mysteries are something that will likely never be solved, which is all part of the drink’s allure and mystique. There are so many questions … should it be shaken or stirred? Why are there three olives? Would you like vodka or gin? For true martini aficionados, the answers to these questions are imperative. However, for the rest of us, it’s a bit of brevity in an otherwise tricky time in our lives.

Which is why we thought we’d share this fun Mother’s Day Martini recipe for Mum’s special day, designed to be served at breakfast, in place of a Mimosa.

Just be careful Mum only enjoys one, or it may mark the day over! This drink can pack quite the punch. One part of the martini history that does stand true – and one we should heed in order to be aware of for responsible intake of alcohol – is the old “three martini lunch”.

This refers back to the 1950’s, where it was widespread practice for cosmopolitan executives and businesspeople to enjoy several of the decadent drops over lunch. Dare we say, very little was achieved later in the afternoon.

How Did The Mother’s Day Martini Come About?

With all the various (and fabulous) martinis on offer these days, from Espresso to Lychee to even a Dripping Wet Martini, one can’t help but wonder how a Mother’s Day Martini – served for breakfast, came to be.

“The Breakfast Martini is a true modern-day classic, first created in 1990s London by Salvatore Calabrese, one of the world’s most famous bartenders,” says Tom Warner from Warner’s Distillery. “We now consider it the ultimate breakfast-in-bed indulgence for mums!”

Well, now that we have that sorted, let’s get to the good part – making your Mother’s Day Martini!

What You’ll Need

·       Warner’s London Dry Gin – 50ml

·       sugar syrup – 15ml

·       lemon juice – 15ml

·       A generous dollop of marmalade

The How-To

·       Making the Mother’s Day martini is a breeze. Simply place all the ingredients into a shaker and stir well to dissolve the marmalade. Add ice, shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Place a twist of orange peel over the drink to garnish and serve with side of buttered toast.

The Carousel would like to wish an incredibly Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums, the mums-to-be, the mums of fur-kids, the aunts and the stand-in, best friend mums. You are all doing an incredible job and we love you!
