Shilajit resin, a common supplement in Ayurvedic medicine, contains antioxidants with potential health benefits, though more research is needed. Found in Himalayan rocks, it develops from decomposing plants over centuries. It’s considered safe and effective for overall health but experts say more research is needed to understand dosing and functionality.

Here are eleven ways shilajit can be beneficial:

1. Prevent or slow Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder. Shilajit’s fulvic acid may prevent tau protein buildup, potentially slowing Alzheimer’s progression. More research is required.

2. Raise testosterone

Signs of low testosterone include low sex drive, hair loss, loss of muscle mass, fatigue, and increased body fat. A study found that purified shilajit significantly raises testosterone levels after 90 days.

3. Treat chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)

Shilajit may reduce CFS symptoms by boosting mitochondrial function and improving energy levels.

4. Slow ageing

Rich in fulvic acid, shilajit may protect against free radicals and cellular damage, contributing to longevity and better health.

5. Reduce altitude sickness

Shilajit’s 84+ minerals and fulvic acid can help counteract symptoms of altitude sickness, such as pulmonary edema, insomnia, lethargy, body pain, dementia, and hypoxia.

6. Treat iron deficiency anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia causes fatigue, weakness, and irregular heartbeat. Shilajit supplements may gradually increase iron levels, improving haemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell count.

7. Treat infertility

In a study, 60 infertile men took shilajit twice daily for 90 days. Over 60% showed increased sperm count, and 12% had improved sperm motility.

8. Support heart health

Shilajit may improve heart health by reducing cardiac lesions. Avoid if you have active heart disease.

9. Improve bone density in females

Postmenopausal women can lose bone mass. A 2022 study suggests shilajit can improve bone mineral density, reducing osteoporosis risk.

10. Boost immune system

Shilajit can help bolster the immune system due to its antioxidant properties, which protect the body against infections and illnesses.

11. Enhance cognitive function

Shilajit may enhance cognitive function, improving memory and learning abilities by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain.

Is it safe to take Shilajit every day?

Ensure shilajit is purified to avoid contaminants. The FDA in the USA does not regulate its quality, so purchase from reputable sources.

Who should avoid taking Shilajit?

Avoid shilajit if you have sickle cell anaemia, haemochromatosis, or thalassaemia. Discontinue use if you develop a rash, increased heart rate, or dizziness.

How to use it

Shilajit is available in liquid and powder forms. Follow instructions for dosage. Consult your doctor before starting shilajit.
