Heritage Meets Haute Couture: Inside The Fullerton Hotel Sydney’s Max Mara Moment

Since Achille Maramotti founded Max Mara in 1951, the house has built its reputation on a single, disciplined idea: that a coat, cut correctly, needs no reinvention. It was among the first Italian labels to industrialise ready-to-wear without sacrificing tailoring – turning out pieces with the precision of couture at a scale couture never intended. Seventy-five years on, that founding instinct – the 101801 camel coat, still in production, still largely unchanged, is proof of it – remains the house’s calling card. Max Mara does not chase seasons. It edits them.

This October, that philosophy finds an unlikely architectural counterpart. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, marking its own seventh year inside the city’s former General Post Office, is hosting The Fullerton Anniversary Experience: a limited-run collaboration that treats a hotel stay less as accommodation and more as an occasion to dress for.

A Setting Written in Stone and Symmetry

Long before it became one of Sydney’s most coveted addresses, The Fullerton occupied a different chapter of the city’s story – as the General Post Office, a monument to civic grandeur on Martin Place. Today, its soaring heritage archways, restored facades and columned interiors read less like hotel architecture and more like a love letter to permanence.

In fact, it is perhaps, the ideal stage for Max Mara – a house whose design philosophy has always prized proportion over provocation, the coat that outlives the season, the silhouette that resists the churn of trend cycles. Both institutions, in their own materials, are fluent in the same dialect: restraint as luxury, longevity as the ultimate statement.

John O’Shea, General Manager of The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, puts it plainly: a building carrying more than 150 years of history, meeting a fashion house with its own decades-long devotion to quality and elegance. Two archives, effectively, on speaking terms.

The Details: A Stay Dressed for the Occasion

Available exclusively for stays between 1 and 31 October 2026, the package is an exercise in curated indulgence, layering the rituals of a five-star stay with the theatre of a fashion house appointment.

A bespoke Fullerton x Max Mara anniversary cake welcomes guests checking into a Tower Premium Room or above — a confection designed expressly to mark the dual milestones, and the first hint that this is no ordinary overnight stay.

From there, the experience unfolds at its own unhurried pace:

  • Daily breakfast, and a guaranteed 1 p.m. late check-out, for mornings that refuse to be rushed
  • An anniversary dessert pairing at The Bar, served alongside a tailored sip – either the sultry Carmel Martini or the sun-drenched, alcohol-free Max Mara Sunset
  • A private Max Mara styling session, booked via QR code from the in-room welcome card and redeemed at the label’s George Street flagship – a two-minute stroll from the hotel’s front steps
  • An exclusive Max Mara VIP gift, collected in the same visit

It is, in effect, a stay engineered around a single afternoon: check out at leisure, wander two minutes down George Street, and step into a fitting room built around the same principle as the coat you’ll likely try on – cut once, worn for decades.

Booking the Experience

The Fullerton Anniversary Experience runs for one month only, and – true to the spirit of both brands – in strictly limited supply. Each package element is capped at one per reservation, and styling sessions and gifting are subject to availability, with blackout dates in effect.

Those inclined toward a stay that doubles as a styling appointment can book directly at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney.
