Savvy Shopaholic Jo Munro takes a look at the best sellers of the year from Amazon and gives us her Retro Tech picks to indulge in this Christmas.

Most people these days are not very disciplined when they see something they want, they buy it.  No wonder finding something special to buy your loved ones for Christmas seems to be getting trickier every year.

With the one year anniversary of Amazon in Australia, they have revealed some of the shopping trends and top selling items from its first year in its “2018 Consumer Trends Report”.   This seems like a great place to start for some clever ideas to spoil those on my Christmas Prezzie list – both naughty and nice!

The report revealed three key trends and the top selling items that fall within them

  1. RetroTech

Nostalgia has emerged as a key trend from the past year, through retro games, clothes, toys, and characters. Think Nintendo classic consoles, Mario Cart, LEGO, monopoly, Connect 4 and Operation, Gameboy and record and cassette players.

Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System $118

Gameboy

Record players and vinyl have certainly made a comeback

USB Turntable with cassette to MP3 $79

2.The Self-Care Nation (Wellness, Fashion and Beauty)

Our obsession with health and wellness has resulted in some interesting sub-trends – wearable tech like Garmin and FitBit products making up almost half of Amazon’s top 10 best-sellers in electronics.

Fitbit Ionic from $278 – $329

Garmin Vivofit 4 From $152

3.The Rise of the Fur Baby

We Aussies are some of the most devoted pet owners on the planet – about 62 per cent of Australian households own a pet and we’re increasingly spending more and more on our adopted family members.  As a self confessed crazy cat lady, I know how indulged my darlings are.  I did buy them a fabulous cat tree from funkycat.com.au.  I didn’t find it difficult to believe that Aussies spend more than $12.2 billion on pet products and services annually.

Funky cat tree – giant hollow $1000 (yes I have one of these for my furbabies)

Hot Tip for Kris Kringle Shopping:

Most pet owners said they would rather receive a lovely gift for their pet than yet another scented candle in the Kris Kringle.  Here are some good ideas for your loved ones furbabies.

Under $20

Pet Cooling Mats $19.95

Pet Bandana and collars for Dogs and Cats Under $20

Under $30

Puppy Toy Gift box for New Dog Owners (12 Gifts)  $28.95

Under $60

5 Piece Cat Dog Grooming Kits $54.87

With a higher proportion of Australians live in households with a dog and/or cat than with a child. More than 50% of us live in a household with at least one cat or/and dog in it, 35% share their household with at least one child aged under 16.

I think this Christmas the fussy loved ones will be receiving some wonderful goodies the ones they really love.
