What Are Micellar Cleansing Waters?

Micellar cleansing water has long been a go-to source for makeup artists to effectively and more specifically gently remove make-up. Here, we reveal how they work and what the fuss is all about.

Micellar cleansing waters are cleansers that don’t feel like cleansers.

They don’t contain soap so they don’t foam up. They are also extremely gentle and less drying on the skin. There’s no need to use a washcloth to rub your face, which may cause irritation. There’s no need to even rinse!

To use a micellar cleansing water, simply soak a cotton pad with the water and wipe it all over the face.

So, how exactly does this holy water work?

Essentially, the emerging new beauty category gets its name from the science behind the product. It is made up of tiny ‘micelles’, which are oil molecules suspended in water. Those tiny molecules grab on to all of the unwanted particles clinging to your face – like make-up, dirt and oil – and essentially dissolve them. Genius.

And, the solution never feels oily and never stings, which mean you can use it all over your face — even if you have sensitive or oily skin.
