Carly Shamgar – the cofounder of the new app Shouta – talks about the power of gifting and how it’s made easier with her app.

A new trend in gifting is here and is called nano gifting – the act of sending an instant gift as a token of your thoughts. Maybe your best mate had a really bad day at work, your sister got promoted or your mum saved the day babysitting the kids during a really important Zoom call, if so then a nano gift is in order.

A recent survey of 1000 Aussies found that, while 89% do purchase spontaneous gifts for friends and loved ones, there is a disconnect between the types of gifts we give, to the types of gift we prefer to receive.

Most people think a gift given as a gesture requires a bottle of alcohol, flowers or chocolate, but in fact, the research shows that cash and vouchers are valued by 50% of Australians beating out that bottle of red (9%), bunch of blooms (9%) and sweet treat (14%)

Let’s face it though, we’re unlikely to change a gifter’s opinion about what they should buy and that’s why my Co-Founder Nick Redwood and I built Shouta, a micro gifting App. In Shouta, gift-givers can choose from the types of gifts they love to send –  like wine or chocolate but it’s delivered to their recipient as a digital prepaid Shouta card which can be spent anywhere Mastercard is accepted, giving the recipient the flexibility of cash or a voucher. It’s a win-win. And there’s more,  the nano gift is delivered instantly via SMS. All the recipient needs to do is click on the link, add their Shouta Mastercard to their digital wallet then tap and pay wherever they like.

The survey also revealed that Aussies aren’t concerned about price with 88% agreeing that the best, most thoughtful gifts needn’t be expensive. In Shouta you can send a nano gift from as little as $5 and because you can customise the Shout with an image and a special message you’re able to send something unique, personalised and fun. This means in a post-2020 world of border closures and lockdowns, it’s now easier than ever to send someone you care about a token of your thoughts in an inexpensive and instant way.
