Congrats to NRL star Sam Burgess and his stunning wife Phoebe.

The couple announced they are the proud parents of a healthy baby girl in an Instagram post on Sam’s account earlier today.

According to Sam’s report, Poppy Alice Burgess was born on January 24.

“My two girls [are] doing extremely well,” the proud Rabbitohs player writes, posting the first picture of the new family together at the hospital.

Phoebe, who is a former writer for Dolly and Cleo and currently a regular on Today and co-founder of Love Your Form, had joked about her burgeoning bump in an Instagram post earlier this month.

“What swallowing a Swiss Ball looks like,” she captioned a bikini mirror selfie, later joking that she was “1000 weeks” pregnant.

“Pregnancy is no doubt a magical, empowering and wonderful ride… it’s also an epic physical challenge (that creeps up on you month by month, sexy symptom by sexy symptom),” she told fans.

She complained to her Instagram followers of “chronic back pain, suffering pubic symphysis (pain)”, and revealed she was carrying a ‘95th centile Bub’.

The TV host added the quip, “looking at you @samburgess8”.

Sam and Phoebe married in December 2015, at a large ceremony in Bowral, south of Sydney.

The couple had previously moved to Bath, England, while Sam tried his hand at English rugby union.

But they returned to Sydney shortly before their wedding to allow Sam to start training with the Rabbitohs again for the 2016 NRL season.

Phoebe, who is the daughter of former Minerals Council boss Mitch Hooke, has expressed that she does not like being referred to as a “WAG”.

“I personally wouldn’t throw the term on my resume and it’s not something I even consider myself in a serious way,” she told the Bath Chronicle in April 2015.

“I know it’s harmless and I’ve only ever heard it used jokingly, but unfortunately the term is loaded with preconceived ideas of what kinds of women are ‘WAGs’.

“Some people make the mistake of assuming your whole life’s work has led to being labelled as one and everything you accomplished before that isn’t important.”
