Hiking For A Cause: Grab Your Girlfriends And Join Adelaide's Coastrek
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Apart from anything, you’ll be in excellent company. Taking part is Olympic Gold Medallist and mum, Juliet Haslam, and journalist Jennifer Byrne, and let’s not forget the other thousands of women who will join.

Many women are using it as a way to get fit or enjoy a weekend with their girlfriends happy in the knowledge that the proceeds go to a very good cause.

The inaugural Adelaide Coastrek was launched by former Prime Minister and beyondblue Chair, Julia Gillard, earlier this year with the aim to raise over $1 million for the mental health organisation.

The Adelaide Coastrek is a 30-60km Team Trekking Challenge and will be held on  Friday 21st September 2018. To register head to www.adelaide.coastrek.com.au.

Social purpose enterprise, Wild Women On Top, are inviting teams of four (at least 50% women) to join the life-changing adventure.

Di Westaway, Founder of Wild Women On Top said: “We’re beyond thrilled to be sharing health and wellbeing with the women of Australia/South Australia through shared hiking adventures while raising funds for beyondblue. One in four Australian women experience mental health conditions and this is a great way to support them.”

beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman said: “Research shows keeping active can help you stay mentally healthy or manage and recover from anxiety or depression. Adelaide Coastrek ticks all the boxes when it comes to looking after our mental wellbeing by spending time with family and friends, keeping fit and having fun.”

Jennifer Byrne in her newly appointed role as Patron across all Coastrek events will help draw attention to the event, encouraging other women to sign up to the challenge and help raise vital funds for beyondblue.

Coastrek Ambassador and local Adelaide Olympian Juliet Haslam AO fell in love with the natural exhilaration that comes from hiking after a calf injury left her unable to run and play team sports. She quickly realised she needed a lift and discovered that walking in nature with the wind in her hair and the sun on her skin was the best solution.

“After the injury limited my fitness options, I began to explore and found all of these fabulous trails, almost in my own backyard. Only minutes from home I’m able to climb hills, jump creeks and enjoy incredible scenery, all whilst getting a sweat up and having that head clearing time and space that we all so desperately need!”

Coastrek began in Sydney in 2009, before launching in Melbourne in 2015 and the Sunshine Coast in 2017. Since then nearly 25,000 trekkers have raised over $22 million for charity.
