Move over chocolates, flowers, and soppy cards — Aussies are getting a little naughtier this Valentine’s Day. New research from Moonpig Australia reveals that sending cheeky pics has officially become our nation’s sixth love language. And we’re blushing just reading about it.

The survey of Australian adults found that over half of us (52%) have sent a spicy snap to a partner. With a whopping 69% saying it actually improves intimacy. Feeling flirty? You’re not alone — half of respondents report that sending cheeky pics makes them feel more playful and connected.

Turns out, the 25–34 age group is leading the trend (56%), but even Gen Z aren’t far behind (42%). And if you’re engaged? 79% of Aussie fiancés are jumping on the cheeky snap bandwagon, making it the ultimate pre-wedding flirt move. Location-wise, Western Australians are the cheekiest of all — 72% admit to sending spicy pics — followed by NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland.

According to certified Australian sex and relationship practitioner Georgia Grace, this trend is less about “just a phase” and more about a modern evolution of intimacy. “Cheeky pics aren’t just a trend — they’re a playful, flirty way to stay connected. When done consensually, sharing a spicy snap actively builds anticipation and reminds your partner they’re wanted,” Grace says.

Modern love comes with a wink. From handwritten notes to perfectly timed cards, or yes, even the occasional spicy snap, today’s couples are expressing themselves in ways that feel fun, personal, and true to their relationship. “Everyone expresses love differently,” says Moonpig Australia Country Manager Elissa Ayling. “Whether your love language is gift-giving, words of affirmation, or something a little spicier, there’s a way to say it your way.”

And if you’re curious about exploring the ‘sixth love language, just remember: mutual respect is key. Never send intimate content without consent — even if you’re convinced your partner is dying for it.

So, this Valentine’s Day, whether you’re all about heart-shaped chocolates, a heartfelt card, or a flirty snap, just know that Aussies are proving love doesn’t just speak — it winks, too.
