Actress Lauren Graham (Lorelai) confirmed the news on her Twitter account, posting a photo of herself holding a jacket that read: “Property of Gilmore Girls Costumes” and writing: “I can now confirm: it’s time for me, and this jacket I stole in 2007, to return to work @netflix #GilmoreGirls.”
The hit TV series won legions of fans more than a decade ago depicting the exploits of a 30-something mother and her teenage daughter, played by Alexis Bledel.
Actors Scott Patterson (Luke), Kelly Bishop (Emily), Sean Gunn (Kirk) and Keiko Agena (Lane) return as well, reports NY Daily News.
The revival will also introduce new characters, including a handyman named Alejandro and his wife Berta, as well as love interest Paul and a magazine editor called Jim.
No word yet, however, on whether breakout star Melissa McCarthy will return.
She played Lorelai’s best friend, Sookie, but since the last episode was filmed in 2007 her movie career has taken off with box-office hits such as Bridesmaids and Spy.
One fan isn’t giving up easily – she’s set up a change.org petition in a bid to lure Melissa back.
Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who has previously said the original series hadn’t ended the way she wanted, will be writing and directing the show along with husband Daniel Palladino.
At this stage, Netflix has given no details about the name of the new program, its filming schedule or when fans can expect it to go online.
The latest episodes will be in miniseries format, with four 90-minute shows, Variety magazine says, citing sources, whereas the original episodes were in standard TV-series format.
