The last supermoon of the year is almost upon us… and it will coincide with another celestial spectacle – the Perseid Meteor Shower. While both will be visually beautiful, the combination will bring with it female empowerment and big changes for our zodiac signs.

The Sturgeon Supermoon will grace our skies on Friday (August 12th)and the three-day Perseid Meteor Shower will peak early the following morning (August 13th) – but the meteor shower will be “fighting with the moon” for our attention.

On a spiritual level the feminine energy of the moon is blocking out the visual sight or the masculine energy of the Perseids.

The masculine energy won’t go away; we just won’t perceive it as much. This is a very female-empowering time – a lot of feminine rage is going to be released, and with this we can expect big changes like women finding their voices and speaking out moreso than usual.

The meteors are called the Perseids because the point from which they appear (called the radiant) lies in the constellation Perseus.

In Greek mythology Perseus finds and beheads Medusa. The relevance with Medusa and her head of snakes is about transformation in thinking.

Medusa was immensely powerful and the masculine energy she was surrounded by at the time did not like to be threatened by feminine empowerment.

Originally Medusa did not have a headful of snakes, but beautiful long locks and her beauty was legendary amongst the Romans. But over time the legend changed, turning her into a monster because beautiful women who actually think were considered extra threatening.

Now, we have the situation where the Perseid Meteor Shower and the Supermoon are vying for our attention and the Supermoon will block out the light of at least part of the Perseids. Hence the feminine energy of the Supermoon is once again battling with the masculine energy of the Perseids – so we can expect unpredictable changes, volatility and unrest.

This is particularly relevant with Saturn’s influence around any kind of structure, corporations and government – and we could expect controversial decisions.

You can’t stop progress and change. People might want to hold onto something that is in the past, but it’s time to let some things go and move forward in life.

While the spiritual effects of the Supermoon will be felt by everyone, because it appears in the zodiac sign of Aquarius – Aquarians, Taureans, Leos and Scorpios can expect to experience its force most.

Capricorns should also expect the unexpected as it is ruled by Saturn, one of Aquarius’s co-rulers along with Uranus.

This Supermoon being in Aquarius, the ‘water bearer,’means although Aquarians spend lots of time in the mental realms, they carry deep-seated emotions.

Aquarius is an air sign and brings emotions from your subconscious into your mind; these are things you need to spend some time mulling over and thinking about.

Emotions will be amplified over large bodies of water – so it’s a great time to go ‘fishing’ for messages in our deep subconscious waters.

It will be important to push through to finish emotional or subconscious business by nurturing your intuition and emotions.

A full moon always brings some form of transformation for everyone and as Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus, Aquarians and Capricorns could feel this most.

We can expect stubbornness to emerge, and people may really dig their toes into the ground over an issue, and we could have unreasonable arguments with people – particularly Taureans.

Aquarius is also a fixed mode – so people who are star signs Taurus, Leo or Scorpio will also experience strong effects.

Aquarians should really take extra care with their legs, calves, ankles, shins and especially their Achilles tendon at this time.

A Supermoon itself is bigger and brighter than a normal full moon, and this is the fourth and final one of the year – although it’s not the brightest, it remains spiritually powerful.

Supermoons happen roughly once every 12 to 14 months, when the full moon is at the closest point to earth during its orbit (its perigee) making it appear larger and brighter. But this year, we have four which is a lot to deal with.

They generally occur when the centre of the moon is less than 360,000 kilometres from the centre of earth. Because it’s so close to earth, a full supermoon looks about 16% brighter and is 7% bigger than an average full moon.

Every full moon has its own name based on the month or the season in which it appears – a name for each full moon allows people to reflect on each season and to contemplate how it affects them and the natural world.

In namesake, the Sturgeon Moon is related to the prehistoric fish once abundant this time of year in the Great Lakes region in America.

When can you see this month’s Sturgeon Supermoon and the Perseid Meteor Shower? The supermoon will reach its peak at 11.35am AEST on Friday August 12th, but as it is late morning it will probably not be visible, and you’ll be best to see it in the night sky. The best viewing for the Perseids will be towards the north at 5am on August 13th , when you could see hundreds of shooting stars competing with the Supermoon as it comes off its fullness.
