For Delta Goodrem, supporting and raising money for Breast Cancer research has become something of a personal crusade. So when she heard about Project Pink and their fundraising efforts, she immediately put her hand up to help out.

Delta told us how she came to be involved, “A good friend of mine told me about this amazing night and of course I said ‘Can I come? I want to be a part of this!’ It’s a cause close to my heart. My mum is a breast cancer survivor and she’s here with me tonight.”

The stunning songstress gave a heartfelt performance at the Project Pink event, taking to the stage to sing some of her hits for Australia’s up and coming talent.

The event was MC’ed by the most recent host of Young Talent Time series, Rob Mills, and when he announced Delta would be joining the show, the crowd went wild!

Looking gorgeous in a pale blush pink gown, Delta joined Rob on stage and had a chat about her return to The Voice as a mentor this season. The cheeky presenter even tried to squeeze some top secret info out of her by asking if one of the Project Pink performers had made it onto Team Delta. After a fair bit of coaxing, Delta said, “All I know is that I have the best team this season. We just did the blinds (auditions) and all I can say is that I may have found very good talent from one of these dance schools performing tonight. I have the best team and I’m in it for the victory this year.”

Singing ‘Sitting on Top of the World’ from her 2012 album Child of the Universe, it was clear she had many fans in the dance-strong crowd as they all sang along and chanted ‘We love you Delta’. She then sang ‘Lost Without You’ from her first album, Innocent Eyes, before being joined by some of the dancers, including two incredible young ladies performing acrobatics on silks 15 feet from the ground. Together they performed ‘Born to Try’, which Delta told the audience that even though she released the single when she was just seventeen, it still very much represents what she stands for today.

Showing her sense of humour, Delta explained to us that during rehearsal one of the younger dancers came up to tell her that she loved her new single. “I thought to myself, okay they must have heard one of my new songs from the record I’ve been working on. But then she said, ‘It’s that Born to Try song,’ and I realised I am getting to that age. Some of my songs were around before these kids were even born. My mum and I had a good chuckle about that.”

She dedicated the song to cancer survivor, and guest of honour, Belinda Agostino. Belinda is the reason Project Pink came about – as one of the dance teachers, the whole community got behind her and wanted to do everything they could when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment. Members got together and decided to organise Project Pink to showcase some of the best performances to honour Belinda and raise money to donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Delta made the fundraiser event a memorable night for everyone, but especially Belinda who said, “Delta performing at Project Pink just made the night so magical! I was so overwhelmed when she dedicated her song ‘Born to Try‘ to me. To add to the magic were 60 gorgeous Project Dance girls dancing their little hearts out. Her angelic voice, her captivating presence, her sensitivity to the cause and her generosity with her time, I will never forget!’

It was clear that Delta loved being able to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation and give her time and energy, as much as the crowd loved watching her do what she does so well. She told them, “I could sit up here for hours and just sing and chat like we’re in my living room.” For the close knit dance community, that’s exactly what it felt like.
