Cross your legs and pay attention. With more than 15 years experience as a qualified beauty therapist, Svetlana Burckhardt has waxed, shaped and seen it all. As the owner of EyebrowExperts, based in Sydney’s exclusive Double Bay, Svetlana is known as the Brazilian Waxing Queen and revolutionised waxing with her 7minsBrazilianWax. Here, Svetlana reveals everything you need to know about Brazilians, waxing, what people are asking for down there and the kookiest request she has had…

Q. What exactly is a Brazilian wax?
“Brazilian waxing refers to hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina. Most of my clients prefer to remove all the hair, however some women prefer a small strip of hair. We always check to see our client’s preference. I have mastered the 7 minute Brazilian wax, taking it all off quickly and painlessly. We also offer IPL Laser Hair removal, which is virtually pain free.”

Q. Are Brazilians popular?
“Yes, the all over Brazilian is very popular! I have even had a few male clients who want to take it all off.”

Q. Is it a summer grooming style, or do people request it all year round?
“Most of my clients keep their Brazilians all year round. Although there are certainly more bookings during the summer bikini season.”

Q. What are the most popular grooming styles?
“With over 15 years experience carrying out Brazilian waxes, I have seen a plethora of grooming styles – everything from neatly trimmed to artisticly designed heart shapes, sparkling Vajazzles and completely bare down there. Many women are also opting for Permanent Hair Laser hair removal so they are bare all year round.”

Q. What preparation should women do before their waxing appointment?
“I always suggest my clients prepare by:
1. Letting it grow. The ideal waxing length for hair is approx 2cm.
2. Showering before the appointment.
3. Wearing a skirt. My clients feel more comfortable pulling up a skirt or dress, rather than removing their pants.
4. Scheduling waxing either before or after their period. During our monthly hormonal period, waxing is more painful and less hygienic.”

Q. How often should women schedule their hair removal appointments?
“I suggest booking an appointment for a Brazilian wax every month, or as required depending on the hair growth. The hair starts growing back finer after a few waxes, so it is worthwhile maintaining regular waxes. Also, unlike some salons, we don’t double dip. We only use the spatula once, then it goes into the bin. Hygiene is our number one priority.

“For IPL, approximately 10 to 12 sessions are required to be bare ‘down there’ permanently. Appointments would be spaced out by one to two months. We use the latest technology German IPL machines, which not only removes black hair but white, grey, blonde and red, so it is suitable for any hair colour.”

Q. What advice do you have for managing in-grown hairs?
“I always recommend that my clients gently buff the areas that have been waxed once a week to minimise ingrown hairs. If ingrown hairs are a particular issue for the client, I would recommend laser hair removal, so the hairs are permanently removed and ingrown hairs do not recur.”

Q. What’s the kookiest request you’ve had?
“An older client of mine wanted to surprise her husband for their 40th wedding anniversary with a Brazilian and Butterfly Vagazzle.”

Q. Your business also supports charities. How does this work?
“Helping people is one of the great things I can do, and I’m blessed that I’m in the position to do that. The charities I support include Dreams2live4, where we offer 50% off tattooing services for breast cancer survivors, and the RSCPA for dogs – $2 from every copy of Confessions of a Brazilian Waxing Queen sold is donated.”Confessions Of A Brazilian Waxing Queen
