The Gentleman Prefer Blondes line-up showcases some of the most famous and gorgeous shots of the big-screen siren whose life was cut tragically short in 1962 at just 36.

A year earlier Marilyn told the 27-year-old Douglas to come into bed with her.

The evening he spent with Marilyn was sensual, intimate, and spontaneous, and it produced the famous series An Evening With Marilyn Monroe.

The portfolio consists of Marilyn posing sensually in bed, with only a silk sheet between her and the camera.

Just a novice photographer at the time, Douglas says the two of them shared a tension-filled shoot that helped create the stunning photographs.

Thinking back on the evening today, he describes their time together as though they “were in a beautiful dance,” with Marilyn leading of course.

Milton, who died in 1985, first met Marilyn on assignment for Look Magazine in 1953. Many consider their subsequent collaboration to be the best and most genuine.

In 1956, they formed Marilyn Monroe Productions together, which produced the hit movies Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl.

By the end of their four-year relationship, he had photographed her in 52 different sittings producing over 5000 images.

In recent years Milton’s photographs have been exhibited in major galleries, museums and private collections around the world. His work continues to represent an era in time, which may have gone but will always be reflected in his photographs, says the gallery.

Meanwhile, another head-turning memorial to Marilyn previously surfaced closer to home – a life-size statue in Bendigo, Victoria.

The eight-metre statue, below, created in the United States was part of an exhibition about the actress.

The three-story resemblance, weighing 15 tonnes, is here to promote an exhibition about the screen legend at the Bendigo Art Gallery, which opens in March.

The sculpture, Forever Marilyn, is by American artist Seward Johnson and takes its inspiration from the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, in which Marilyn’s character stands over the subway grates with her dress billowing up around her.
