Ask the Anti-Ageing Expert: Frequent Flyer Beauty Favourites

Not many hairdresser’s can lay claim to having a hair care range approved by His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales.

But, Daniel Galvin Jr. can. The fourth-generation royal hairdresser comes from a dynasty of hairstylists, with his father responsible for Princess Diana’s iconic blonde ‘do’.

Not only does Daniel Galvin Jr. have regal hair ties, but the renowned hairdresser, who recently visited Australia, has also tended to the strands of the stars, including everyone from Stephanie Seymour, Twiggy, Johnny Depp, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne and our own Kylie Minogue.

Daniel launched Dubble Trubble, his own natural, organic hair care and body wash range for tots, 5 years ago in the UK. This was then followed on by listings in Target in the US and now his royal range has recently been launched in Australia and is currently available at Woolworths.

Organic, natural and sustainable, Dubble Trubble, is beauty with a conscience. A long-standing lobbyist of the organic beauty movement, the range is free of parabens, SLS, mineral oils or animal ingredients, and without the hefty price tag organic products usually incur.

Plus, with a percentage of the sales going to The Prince’s Charities Australia, it’s rub-a-dub-dub with a philanthropic splash.

We were lucky enough to steal some of his hair Highness’ precious minutes whilst visiting Australia, where he indulged us on everything from pesky chemicals to Prince Charles.

Tell us more about your new organic kids’ hair care and body wash collection, and why it has the Royal Seal of Approval?

This range of sustainable ethical organic kids’ product comes in three different essences, devised to make bath-time and shower time more fun for kids. The watermelon and cherry two in one shampoo and body wash are the perfect pH balance for children’s skin and the detangling spray in cool cucumber is a hero product as it is used on wet or dry hair. Children go to bed looking like angels and wake up looking like monsters and the detangling spray packed full of glycerin proteins to strengthen their hair and silks will glide through their hair before school without tears or tantrums   This product has HRH Princes charities Australia’s endorsement and we make donations per product sold to the charity.

I had a dual purpose for creating the brand. Firstly as a means of helping disadvantaged youngsters through the Prince’s Trust, and secondly in response to the growing demand for a natural and organic children’s haircare and body range, but without the price tag.

I really wanted to create a platform to raise both money and awareness for The Prince’s Trust in the UK. At the same time I had long been determined to create a range of children’s organic hair products having discovered the potentially harmful side effects of ingredients routinely used in existing ranges.

You’ve launched the product, Dubble Trubble, in America and now in Australia. This is your first trip to Australia, are you excited about the launch here?

I am very excited about the launch in Australia, I’m delighted to be working with such an inspiring retailer such as Woolworths. It’s amazing that through the sales of Dubble Trubble we will be supporting the Prince’s Charities Australia to help fund conservation projects such as the work they are doing on the Great Barrier Reef to help reduce light pollution which is affecting sea turtles. The knowledge and understanding people in Australia have of organic and protecting the environment is unparalleled.

What’s different about this Shampoo and Wash compared to others, and how is it beneficial to children?

There are no nasties such as SLES, SLS, Parabens and chemicals that strip the skin of natural oils. Dubble Trubble has over 70% organic ingredients and is pH balanced. The range has been rigorously tested at my salon in Belgravia, London, to ensure the range offers performance results without the price tag.

Why should parents be turning to natural, organic products over traditional products?

I have always been careful about the products I use on myself, avoiding anything with harsh chemicals. This awareness increased after the birth of my son in 2000 when I discovered that chemical ingredients found in children’s hair products, 60% of which are easily absorbed by the skin, can have the same effect as sugary junk food. In addition, they can also strip delicate skins of oil and lead to conditions such as asthma and eczema. Our products contain organic ingredients which will not adversely affect the body.

What feedback have you had about the products from the Royal Family?

I couldn’t possibly comment, but when I have been at the palace the Duchess has said all her grandchildren are fans of Dubble Trubble.

We’re dying to know more about some of your famous clients, including our very own Kylie Minogue. Who has been your favourite head of hair to work on and why?

Whether it be Kylie, Robbie Williams, Johnny Depp, Holly Valance a member of the royal family or Mrs Smith from the High Street they will all get treated like royalty. However we pride ourselves on client confidentiality so that’s all I can say about that.

As a fourth generation hairdresser, what are the upcoming trends in colour? And are there any hair do’s you’d like to forget?

The Trump is certainly one to forget as it needs a complete makeover. Elle MacPherson is one of my favourite as her hair always looks wonderful and she is a true sun-kissed babe!!

We think it’s time to give your tots the Royal Treatment, and make bath time that extra bit special (and safe).

If it’s good enough for Prince George…
