Anne Hathaway Oscar speech was a fake

You may have forgotten Anne Hathaway’s cringe-worthy Oscars acceptance speech in 2013 for Les Miserables.

But Anne certainly hasn’t.

The subsequent star of a host of forgettable follow-ups, including The Intern, says the experience that resulted in her becoming an international hate symbol has haunted her ever since.

The disastrous day was even immortalised as a punchline in Amy Schumer’s 2015 hit film Trainwreck when the comedian’s character teases her boyfriend (played by Bill Hader) when he wins a charity award by telling him he looks like Anne Hathaway at an Oscars party.

Anne Hathaway says Les Miserable was a taxing experience

Anne now confesses she was too messed up by her role in Les Miserables to be happy during her Oscars acceptance speech, which was widely criticised for seeming insincere.

“I kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadn’t come back yet,” admits Anne,  whose controversial US$80,000 Prada dress also drew plenty of criticism.

“Then I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I don’t feel which is uncomplicated happiness.”

“It felt wrong that I was standing there in a gown that cost more than some people are going to see in their lifetime, and winning an award for portraying pain that still felt very much a part of our collective experience as human beings,”

“I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That’s the truth and that’s what happened. It sucks.”

USA Today reports that Anne, who had a baby son with husband Adam Shulman in March this year, plays a drunk drifter in new movie Colossal and critics are calling it her “riskiest post-Oscar move yet.”
