With the maximalist revolution upon us (blame Mr Michele at Gucci), now is the time for more-is-more, even in the beauty stakes.

Like the elevated state of fashion, beauty too has taken a fantastical approach – with artful composition and theatrical handiwork taking centre stage. Inspired by the quirky rumblings of the runway, we take a look the most brazen eye trends this year, and how to try a more muted take.

The playful tone of Fendi’s show was also manifest on eyes, as ‘it’ girls like Kendall Jenner paraded with kaleidoscopic colour. Like a kid’s colouring book, there were turquoise wings, daffodil dots, sweeps of seafoam and chunks of turquoise. Take to the trend with Gel Eye Crayon’s like Marc Jacobs’, and get drawing, but try and stick to one or two painterly designs to avoid looking like a kindergarten calamity.

The Latticework Lids

A beauty homage to the famed quilted bags of Chanel, Karl sent a swathe of models down the runway with lattice-printed lids. Whilst the meticulous handiwork of makeup artist, Tom Pecheux, may seem a most daunting task; fake the look at home with the ol’ spray technique. Apply a small patch of netting or mesh across the lid, and dust away with Chanel’s Ombre Eye Shadow. We’ve got diamonds in our eyes (or on).

The Super Smudge

Super smudgy, all-nighter, party girl eyes have been a huge fixture on both local and international catwalks. Preen your panda eyes more than those of Marc Jacobs’ muses though, and simply brush a dark shadow like Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow through the socket and around the eye for maximum impact.

The Dazzling Diamonds

One of the most dazzling eye trends of the year, Anthony Vaccarello brought new light to the idea that diamonds are a girls best friend. Diamantes were carefully arched and placed to recreate the feline flick; hello, glamour 101. Recreate the look using eyelash glue and dot individual diamantes (or fine strips), rather than a condensed chunk, for those high-octane Saturday nights.

The Exaggerated Shadow

The sartorial Gucci roar is currently so loud it’s become deafening; with anything head designer Alessandro Michele touching, turning to fashionable gold. From a beauty standpoint, take heed of his Cruise runway and overly exaggerate a coppery, bronze shadow above and under the eye, smudging outwards with a dab of drama. Perfect to make those light-eyed peepers pop, try Charlotte Tilbury’s The Legendary Muse Palette.
