Why Your Skin Will Love Micellar Water

Skin needling might sound ridiculously traumatic, but it’ll do wonders for your skin… and you’ll notice the results in just a couple of days. We spoke with Sia Hendry, paramedic aesthetician and founder of You By Sia Clinics about the service, and just what to expect.

What is skin needling?

Skin needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that utilises a device with micro-fine needles to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production, for effective skin rejuvenation. By creating micro-incisions gently over the surface of the skin, skin adopts a wound repair response mode which triggers the release of new collagen and elastin, helping to smooth out the complexion and improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. The results of skin needling are comparable to those of chemical peels and fractional lasers, with minimal downtime.

What does it help to do?

Skin needling is predominantly designed to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen to promote skin cell renewal and support a youthful and even complexion. By lifting, tightening, rejuvenating and resurfacing the skin, Skin needling can tackle a range of skin conditions and concerns including:

  • Ageing, wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne scarring
  • Scarring in general
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne, pimple and blackheads
  • Milia
  • Pigmentation
  • Sun damage

Does it hurt?

No. A topical anaesthetic is applied before skin needling treatment and so there is no discomfort.

Can you get away with doing it once, or is it best done over several sessions?

I generally recommend one session a month, for 3 to 6 months in order to maximise results. With each session taking approximately 60 minutes, it’s easy to schedule in multiple treatments. Usually after 3-5 days, skin will start to show signs of rejuvenation, from reduced appearance of wrinkles to tighter pores, firmer-looking skin and all round skin luminosity.

What should you avoid doing, during or while you’re in between skin needling sessions?

The face may appear slightly red in the two or three days following treatment, followed by slight flaking. As a result, post treatment you should stay out of the sun and avoid using harsh products on your face until the flaking has stopped. To ensure outcomes are maintained and maximised, always use cosmeceutical-grade skincare products in order to assist the wound repair process. This should be recommended by your clinician. Additionally, I would recommend only using Mineral Makeup as it will allow your skin to breathe.

Can people of all skin types benefit from skin needling?

Absolutely! Skin needling is suitable for all skin types and tones. However I would always recommend that you seek professional advice from a reputable clinic so that your Skin Needling treatment is tailored to your needs.

You by Sia skin clinics offer a skin needling treatment called Regen Pen, which works to target the skin from within. By targeting the deepest layer of the skin (dermis) to help create a new foundation for supporting skin renewal, our Skin needling treatment works without impairing the outermost layer of the skin (epidermal barrier).
