7 Spring Beauty Trends Doing The Heavy Lifting This Season

Spring has a way of rewriting the rules. The heavy layers come off, the SPF goes back on (ahem. Trick statement. It should never have left!), and suddenly the idea of a full face of makeup feels like far too much effort for far too little payoff.

This season’s beauty shift isn’t about more – it’s about intention. Sharper eyes, softer cheeks, skin that looks like skin (just better), and hair that’s been busting to get out of that beanie. Not sure where to start? Here are the seven beauty trends actually worth adding to your routine this spring.

1. Eye-Maxxing

The “-maxxing” suffix gets slapped onto everything lately. But this one’s earned it. Eye-maxxing

Forget contouring the eye into someone else’s shape – the Eye-maxxing trend simplg about working with the one you already have. Less a technique than a philosophy, the easiest approach is to pick up whatever colour makes your eyes look more like themselves, and go from there. Copper for hazel. Cobalt for brown. A wash of shimmer if the goal is simply to look a little more awake. There’s no single finish to chase – just your own eye colour, turned up.

2. Flustered Blush

The era of sharply sculpted, strategically-swept blush is making room for something looser – and frankly, more fun. At Copenhagen Fashion Week, makeup artist Vilde Feste coined the term “post-skate glow,” chasing the exact flush you get from being a little too energetic, a little too excited, or – let’s be honest – caught slightly off guard. Instead of sweeping colour high onto the cheekbones, Feste placed it lower on the cheeks, for a flush that reads more youthful and a lot more flirtatious.

3. Skin-First Makeup

As the temperature climbs, so does the general aversion to anything heavy on the face. In its place: makeup that quietly does more with less. The line between skincare and makeup keeps blurring, and complexion products are leaning further into that overlap – pigment and coverage delivered through serums, oils and hydrating formulas that treat the skin as much as they cover it. The goal isn’t to look like you’re wearing makeup at all. It’s to look like your skin, just on a very good day.

4. Hydrated Lips

If there’s one thing winter takes from you without asking, it’s soft lips. Spring is the season to give them back. Think glossy, plumped, well-conditioned lips over anything matte or long-wear – a low-maintenance swipe you can layer, reapply and not think too hard about, so the rest of your look stays effortless.

Try: Moroccanoil Lip Balms,  $22 each

5. Sweetly Scented Body

Winter skin tends to disappear under layers – out of sight, out of the routine. Spring is when body care comes back into focus, and scent becomes part of the appeal again: something you catch on your own skin throughout the day, not just something applied once and forgotten. It’s less about a single product and more about body care as a small sensorial ritual, nourishing and fragrant in equal measure.

Try: Summer Fridays Body Butter Balm, $53, and Body Fragrance Mist, $62, available in Vanilla, Pink Guava and Pistachio Milk at Mecca

6. Spring Clean Your Brushes

Spring cleaning has a habit of stopping at the wardrobe, when really, the makeup bag deserves the same treatment. Tools hold onto product, oil and bacteria in a way skin never forgives, and a fresh set – or at least a proper refresh – is one of the easiest upgrades to a routine that no product alone can fix. Consider it the unglamorous step that makes every other trend on this list actually look good.

Try: Mecca Max Brushes, always vegan and cruelty-free, from $10 AUD, exclusively at mecca.com and in Mecca stores nationwide.

7. Seasonal Hair Swaps

More time outdoors means more sun, salt, humidity and heat – and your hair routine needs to catch up. According to Jaye Edwards, owner and founder of EdwardsAndCo, a few strategic swaps make the difference between hair that thrives through spring and hair that just survives it.

Try:

  • UV Protection: O&M PS Spray – “Lightweight UV protection without weighing hair down, and it helps prevent colour from fading,” says Edwards.
  • Anti-Humidity: O&M Frizzy Logic – “Smooths and controls frizz while still letting the hair move naturally.”
  • Detox: O&M Original Detox Shampoo & Conditioner – “Removes the build-up of chlorine, salt, oil and product, leaving the scalp clean and hair refreshed.”
  • Hair Mask: O&M Power Base Masque – “An intensive hit of moisture without leaving hair feeling coated. Use once a week.”
  • Bonus, Colour Protection: O&M CØR.restore Leave-in Treatment – “Protects and conditions coloured hair between salon visits, keeping it smooth and fresh.”
