Launching the new Jurlique Rare Rose Collection required something special. But the brand certainly “rose to the occasion…
The setting for the unveiling was, fittingly, a church in Sydney’s Rose Bay – an address so on-the-nose it felt scripted, and a nod to Jurlique’s own origins in Adelaide, “the city of churches.” Host Elle Ferguson, presiding over what she cheekily called her own “wedding”, set the tone with the kind of nostalgia that can’t be manufactured, only lived.
“I fell in love with the brand through my mum and my dad,” she told the room, recalling pilgrimages to Chatswood Chase for the Rose Water Balancing Mist and the Rose Silk Finishing Powder, back when it “came in a white bottle, a glass white bottle.” Some scents are perfume. Others are memory with a spritz nozzle. For Ferguson, Jurlique’s rose has always been the latter: “That rose scent has always stayed with me and for me, it’s my connection to Jurlique.”
It is this thread – equal parts sentiment and science – that Jurlique has spent the better part of a year rewinding and re-weaving into something new. Enter the Rare Rose renovation, a collection that proves that some things really don’t need road coloured glasses to beautifully bloom…
Stop and Smell the (Re-formulated) Roses
The Jurlique Rare Rose Collection is the brand’s most significant reformulation in the Rare Rose line’s history, and its first-ever permanent range to reach 100% natural origin ingredients and fragrance across the board – all under the brand’s newly minted Conscious Code, its internal charter for clean, considered formulation. As Ferguson put it, the range is now “aligned to Jurlique Conscious Code… that creates products that are clean and conscious,” calling it “their most innovative example of this.”
The result is a Triple-Action Hydration System – Replenish, Regulate, Retain, or the “3Rs,” as Ferguson introduced them – engineered to deliver a headline-grabbing 120 hours of hydration. Translation, for anyone whose skin care routine has occasionally felt like watering a garden with a leaky can: the effects don’t wilt by lunchtime.
At the centre of it all, two roses – grown nowhere else on earth but Jurlique’s biodynamic farm in the Adelaide Hills – do the heavy lifting. This is not a brand borrowing rose as a marketing motif. This is a brand that has, quite literally, bred its own.
A Rose By Any Other Name … One Signature, One Scene-Stealer
If the Jurlique Rose plays the range’s classic, quietly confident lead – think a single, elegant stem rather than a showy bouquet – then the new Intense Rose, named in tribute to co-founder Ursula Klein, steps into the spotlight as its dramatic understudy.
Cherie Hutchinson, Jurlique’s Tourism and Farm Manager, walked the room through the distinction with the kind of specificity only a farmer could offer. “This Intense Rose is almost blue in colour,” she explained. “It actually starts with crimson red and turns into a really deep purple… If you leave them on the racks a little bit longer, they almost turn black in colour.” Where the Jurlique Rose is “medium and sedentary” with “this beautiful, intense fragrance,” the Intense Rose is a spray variety – “it sprays three to five heads per stem” – and altogether “denser,” its scent “really deep… kind of like its colour.”
The numbers behind the bloom are, frankly, staggering. Each Intense Rose flower carries “over 90” petals; the Jurlique Rose, a comparatively modest 45. Scaled up across the whole collection, Hutchinson noted the farm used “700 kilos of rose petals” for the Jurlique Rose alone, and “450 kilos” for the Intense Rose – an accounting so labour-intensive she joked, “It’s really tricky to answer that correctly because that’s a lot of counting to do… feel free to come and do some counting one day. I’ll let you know you’ll need a couple of weeks to do that.”
It’s a reminder, delivered with a laugh, that behind every “clinically proven” statistic on a Jurlique label sits an actual field, an actual season, and an actual person who knows every stem by sight.

That soil-to-skin philosophy runs through everything Hutchinson does. “One of the things I love connecting customers to… is connecting your skin to the soil,” she said. “We don’t put any chemicals, there’s no pesticides, anything nasty… which then translates into really healthy botanicals that actually translate onto your skin.” It’s a lineage so direct it borders on literal: what goes into the ground in the Adelaide Hills eventually shows up on your bathroom shelf, and then on your face.
Perhaps the loveliest twist in the whole story is the confession, made mid-panel, that even devoted fans occasionally misplace Jurlique’s postcode. “I hate to say this, but I thought it was a French brand,” Ferguson admitted, before catching herself with visible delight – because Jurlique isn’t Provençal, it’s Peramangk country in South Australia, “an Australian brand… done there in its own hand,” which, if anything, makes the whole story “even more phenomenal.”

The renovated line comprises three daily rituals, each formulated to work in concert:
