When Chris and Emily planned their wedding, there was one non-negotiable: their dog Pippa had to be part of it. And honestly, how could she not? She’s family.

Captured beautifully by Carley Stieler Photography, their wedding photos with Pippa weren’t just adorable they told a deeper story of love, loyalty, and real life. The kind of story you want framed on your wall forever.

If you’re planning your big day and wondering if you should include your pet, here’s your sign to say YES.

Why Pets Belong at Your Wedding

Your pet has been there through it all, the late-night snacks, the tearful planning moments, the proposal nerves. Including them in your wedding adds a deeply personal, joy-filled layer to your celebration.

It’s not just cute, it’s comforting.

Many couples don’t even give it a second thought. To them, it’s natural. And guests? They love it. Pets have a calming energy that eases nerves and creates unforgettable, joy-filled moments.

Ways to Include Your Pet in the Big Day

Here are some heart-melting ways you can make your furry friend part of your wedding story:

1. Getting Ready Moments

Let your photographer capture those sweet, candid moments like you tossing a ball in your wedding robe, your pup cuddling at your feet. It’s pure magic.

2. Down the Aisle

Whether they walk with the bridal party or strut down solo, pets walking the aisle always steal the show. Bow ties and flower crowns highly encouraged.

3. Dressed to Impress

Tuxedos, tutus, or a floral collar — let your pet show up in style! It’s cute, camera-ready, and an easy crowd-pleaser.

4. Ring Bearer Duties

Feeling bold? Make your pet the ring bearer with a pouch or harness that safely carries your rings. You’ll never forget that walk.

5. Photo Time = Pawfect Memories

Let your photographer know you want pet portraits included. Whether they’re in the group shots or front and center, these are the photos you’ll treasure forever.

6. Camera Pup Goals

Want to have some fun? Mount a GoPro or phone and let your pet “film” parts of your ceremony. Instant behind-the-scenes footage with a waggy twist.

7. Let the Celebrant Shout Them Out

Many marriage celebrants love acknowledging pets during ceremonies. It adds heart, humour, and a sweet connection for everyone watching.

Pet Comfort 101: What to Know Before You Say “I Do”

As much as we love the idea of pets at weddings, their comfort matters too. Here’s how to make sure they have the best day ever:

  • Choose a pet-friendly venue. Always check first.
  • Hire a pet sitter or dog handler for the day. You’ll enjoy your day knowing they’re safe and cared for.
  • Create a rest/play area. Bring their bed, water, food, and toys.
  • ID tags are a must. Even if they’re trained, better safe than sorry.
  • Take time to weigh the pros and cons. You know your pet best.

Meet the Photographer Who Gets It

Hi, I’m Carley, the woman behind the lens at Carley Stieler Photography. Based in Ipswich, QLD, I’ve had the joy of capturing couples, families and yes, lots of pets for over 6 years.

My journey started photographing my own animals, and over time, I discovered the powerful connection between people and their pets. It’s something I still bring into every shoot, especially weddings.

Whether it’s your dog, your horse, or your feathered friend I’d be honoured to help you include them in your day. You’ll walk away with memories that feel as special as the love you share.

Your wedding day is a celebration of love. Why not include the ones who give you unconditional love every single day?
